- Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds on Cummins High Horsepower engines in a field‐service environment with minimal supervision.
n
- Support Rio Tinto's mining operations by ensuring maximum fleet availability, reliability, and operational safety.
n
- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, following Cummins and OEM procedures.
n
- Interpret complex engine system interactions—including fuel systems, electronic controls, cooling, exhaust/aftertreatment, and driveline—to accurately identify and resolve root causes.
n
- Provide onsite customer support, manage expectations, and communicate technical outcomes clearly and professionally.
n
- Coach, mentor, and support junior technicians and apprentices, including reviewing repair plans, parts interpretation, and workflow accuracy.
n
- Complete all service documentation, warranty claims, technical notes, and diagnostic reports within Cummins systems.
n
- Identify potential sales or service opportunities, such as component upgrades, parts requirements, or preventive maintenance improvements.
n
- Maintain company tooling, equipment, and service vehicle in safe, clean operating condition.
n
- Comply with all Cummins and Rio Tinto Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements, participating actively in hazard reporting, Take 5s, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
n
- Escalate complex technical issues through defined Cummins technical escalation channels to ensure timely and accurate resolution.

Responsibilities

- Significant field service experience with expert‐level technical capability in Cummins High Horsepower (HHP) engines (QSK19, QSK38, QSK50, QSK60).
n
- Proven experience working on large mining fleets, including:
n

- Komatsu 830E haul trucks
n
- Komatsu WA1200 loaders
n
- Komatsu PC550 excavators
n
- Hitachi EX5600‐7 excavators
n

nn
- Ability to interpret and use Cummins INSITE, electronic diagnostic tools, technical publications, and troubleshooting workflows.
n
- Strong problem‐solving and decision‐making skills when working with high‐complexity systems and remote field conditions.
n
- Excellent communication skills with a solid customer‐service focus.
n
- Vocational trade qualification (Cert III Heavy Diesel or equivalent); Apprentice‐trained Engine Technician preferred.
n
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet site access, medical, and compliance requirements.
n
