Australia built the solar. Nobody was made responsible for running it.
Australia has more rooftop solar per person than anywhere on earth, and almost none of it is coordinated. Households own the hardware but have no reason to dispatch it. Retailers and networks need it dispatched but do not control it. The result is curtailment: energy switched off because there is nothing in place to store and release it.
NRN exists to fix that. We own, install, maintain and dispatch solar and battery systems in people's homes, and we run them together as a single Smart Grid behind the meter. The household pays nothing upfront and gets electricity up to 40% cheaper than market. The grid gets dispatchable capacity exactly where demand sits.
In July 2025 we closed a $67 million Series A, one of the largest clean energy raises of its kind in Australia, backed by Investible's Climate Tech Fund, Virescent Ventures and Infradebt. We are building toward 250,000 Smart Grid homes by 2030. We are early, and the work is genuinely unsolved.
The role
You are the first person a prospective customer speaks to, and you get them to the point of trying it for themselves.
This is not a pitch job. Our trial lets a customer see a real, lower electricity bill arrive before they sign a contract, which means the product does the convincing. Your job is to remove everything standing between an interested household and that first bill: answer the credibility questions straight, qualify quickly, get the bill uploaded, and walk them into the trial without making it hard work.
The customers you speak to are sharp. Many already understand solar better than the average installer. They have read about dodgy operators and they arrive looking for the catch. The only thing that converts them is being straight with them, which is the whole reason we do it this way.
You will own the front of the journey end to end: every inbound enquiry,
the qualification, the bill validation, the sign-up, and the follow-up in between.
You will also be one of the most valuable sources of insight in the business. What customers ask you, and what they misunderstand, changes how we target, how we explain the product, and what we build next. We want you in that conversation, not just reporting numbers into it.
What you will be doing
- Taking inbound enquiries by phone, email and web, and being the first real conversation a customer has with us
- Answering the questions everyone asks first: what this is, whether it is real, how it works, what the catch is, and what happens at the end
- Qualifying leads on solar, usage and roof suitability, and calling it early when someone is not a fit
- Chasing and validating electricity bill uploads, and fixing the problems that stop them
- Guiding customers through trial sign-up and owning any issue in that process until they are accepted
- Working the pipeline properly: outbound follow-up, re-engaging people who went quiet, and keeping Salesforce genuinely accurate
- Feeding customer insight back to the Growth and Product teams every week
- Helping build the playbook, because right now there isn't one
What we are looking for
- Two or more years in phone-based sales, inside sales, contact centre or a consultative customer-facing role, with a record against targets
- Comfortable with volume, and disciplined enough to work a pipeline without being chased
- Able to explain something unfamiliar in plain language, and to sound like a person rather than a script
- Curious about customers. You lead with questions
- Honest. Our customers are looking for the catch and the only winning move is not having one
- Organised, self-directed, and effective somewhere the process is still being written
- Interested in energy, household savings and the transition. This matters more to us than category experience
Also valued, but not required:
- A second language spoken widely across Greater Sydney, Mandarin in particular, and the confidence to explain and sell the product in it
- Background in energy retail, solar, telco, insurance or financial services
- Understanding of Australian electricity bills and tariffs, or of residential solar and battery systems
- Experience at pop-ups, community events or other face-to-face customer work
What you get
- A total package with a performance component, plus superannuation and employee share options. You own a piece of what you build
- A product that works, sold to people who benefit from it. No pressure tactics, because they are not needed
- Direct access to the leadership team, and influence over how NRN targets, explains and sells the Smart Grid
- A explicit path into customer success, account management or growth as the function scales
- Exposure to solar, battery and VPP technology at the front edge of the transition
- A small, direct team based in Sydney CBD
