DevOps Engineer – Federal Government

? Location: Canberra, ACT – Primarily Onsite

About the Opportunity

Hatchit Studios is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer for a long-term labour hire opportunity supporting a major Federal Government program in Canberra.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary infrastructure and DevOps environment, helping design, implement and secure Microsoft Azure cloud platforms and supporting the migration of applications and infrastructure to the cloud.

This is a highly hands-on role suited to an experienced DevOps professional with strong Azure, DevSecOps, Linux and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) capability.

The role is primarily onsite in Canberra. Remote working of up to two days per week may be considered after the first six months, subject to client approval.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, implement and maintain Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and services
- Develop automated solutions for deploying infrastructure and applications to Azure
- Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell and YAML
- Support cloud migration of applications and existing on-premise infrastructure
- Implement DevOps and DevSecOps practices across cloud environments
- Design and implement security controls across the Azure platform
- Work with Azure RBAC, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy and related cloud security technologies
- Automate security and infrastructure processes using Microsoft Azure DevOps
- Manage and support Linux environments, including Java-based applications
- Monitor cloud services, platform health, utilisation and performance
- Support vulnerability management and implementation of security improvements




- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to feature planning and prioritisation
- Collaborate with architects, developers, administrators and internal and external stakeholders
- Produce technical documentation and transfer knowledge to internal teams

Skills & Experience Required

- Minimum 5 years' experience applying DevOps practices within complex data and analytics environments
- Minimum 5 years' experience supporting the design and delivery of new technology capabilities, including system design, development, governance and documentation
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Administration
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and/or DevSecOps
- Strong Linux administration experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
- Hands-on experience with Ansible, PowerShell, Terraform and/or YAML
- Solid understanding of cloud security, automation and infrastructure engineering
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams

Highly Desirable

- Experience with Kubernetes
- Previous hands-on web application development experience
- Experience supporting complex Federal Government, national security, law enforcement or similarly regulated environments
- Existing NV1 Security Clearance

Security & Eligibility

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 Security Clearance.

The successful candidate will also be required to successfully complete the client's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.
