We're Buildfix — a leading structural repair company with teams in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

We specialise in remedial work, fixing homes and commercial buildings that are cracking, sinking and suffering from subsidence.

Most days you'll complete one or two smaller jobs, mainly north of the river. Different address most days, no big construction sites, and you're not stuck doing the same thing in the same place for months.

What the day actually looks like

You'll meet around the Kippa-Ring area, head out with the crew and walk through the job with the homeowner before you start.

They're standing in their own backyard watching work happen to their home, so how you explain what you're doing matters just as much as how you do it.

Then it's on the tools — drilling into slabs and footings, injecting structural resin, watching levels as sections of the building stabilise or come back into position, and sorting out the occasional mechanical gremlin when the equipment decides not to cooperate.

Every day is a different suburb, a different house and a different customer — but the repair process becomes familiar. That's how you get good at it.

Do this properly for a year and you'll start reading cracked walls, movement and foundation problems better than most people in construction ever get the chance to.

It's outdoors most days and generally runs at a more relaxed pace than a major construction site. Most of the time you're working around someone's home with a small crew, getting the job done properly and moving on.

Who this suits

You’ll probably suit this role if:

- You've spent a year or two doing something hands-on — building labouring, landscaping, maintenance, mechanical work or anything involving power tools

- You can pick up a drill and know what you're doing

- You're practical, mechanically minded and positive at figuring things out

- You notice when something doesn't look quite right

- You're comfortable talking to customers — clear, polite and straight with people

- You have a full driver's licence

- You have your own reliable way of getting to the crew each morning

- You're based northside, or the drive doesn't bother you

- You want to learn something specialised rather than just being another labourer on another site

- You like finishing a job properly and being able to see what you've achieved

One of the best parts of the work is seeing a homeowner's reaction when a section of their house starts moving back into position and cracks begin closing.

It definitely doesn't feel like just another day on a construction site.

What this job isn't

- It's not a subcontracting gig - no ABNs

- It's not a big construction site

- It's not the same pace every day - some days finish early, other days you keep going until the job is done

- It's not for someone who's never held a power tool - we'll train you properly, but you need the basics before you start

- It's not for someone who doesn't like dealing with people - the customer is usually home, and talking them through the work is part of the job
