18th August, 2026

Hol your placement in our Livewire and Starlight Express Room programs and help transform the hospital experience for young people by providing engaging activities that boost social connections, creativity and confidence.

Starlight Children’s Foundation’s mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families. Our volunteers are at the heart of our programs, and by volunteering with us, you’ll help bring happiness to young people when they need it most. Because happiness matters!

Our Volunteers are essential members of the Starlight team. You’ll be part of a wonderful, diverse, positive community of like-minded people who share Starlight’s SHINE value and are committed to our mission.

What does a typical shift look like?

Hospital shifts vary, and you’ll bring your creative skills, positivity and warmth to each one as you engage and connect with teens. This is a role where your creative skills really SHINE. Whether you’re into painting, photography, magic, animation, gaming (and so on!), if you’re a creative person who wants to help others, this is the volunteer role for you.

You’ll also welcome teens to the space and help keep the space clean and organised.

Will I be trained?

Absolutely! Successful applicants receive complete on-boarding, training, and support. We want you to have the best possible experience.

Safeguarding Children and Young People

Children and young people are at the heart of Starlight’s Mission. Our first and most important responsibility is the safety and well-being of the children and young people we support.

At Starlight,

we have a commitment to safeguard the children and young people we work with. We have an internal policy that we abide by which underpins our employment and volunteering with Starlight.

Anything else I should know?

Yes, and it’s important too! We’re committed to providing positive experiences in an environment that’s caring, nurturing and safe. Successful applicants will therefore undertake a Working With Children Check and a National Police Check.

Further, as part of our commitment to the safety of our team and community, we work closely with hospitals to ensure we follow their protocols and guidelines.

Additional requirements

- You must be aged 21 or older to apply
- Successful applicants will need to comply with our vaccination policy
- We’d especially love to hear from candidates who have worked or volunteered with adolescents

We seek candidates from diverse backgrounds who will bring rich experience and perspective to the team, which we know will enhance our creativity and collective intelligence. We aim for our Starlight team to reflect the broader community and we encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, members of the LGBTQIA + community, people with diverse abilities and those who are mature aged or just starting out in their careers.

We are committed to positive experiences in an workplace where everyone is included, respected, safe and treated fairly, so you can be your best and true self every day.

If we can make accommodations to our recruitment process to better enable you to shine, please include this in your application.

Take that first step and start something special.
