About the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine

The Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine (SAPM) is the largest of all the Clinical Operations Divisions at Austin Health. The Division provides an extensive range of surgical and procedural specialties delivered across theatres, outpatient clinics, and surgical wards at both the Austin Hospital and the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital sites.

About the role

We are seeking experienced and visionary medical leaders for the Director of Liver and Intestinal Transplant Surgery role. This is a fixed-term, full-time leadership position within the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine (SAPM), offering the chance to shape the future of liver transplantation and retrieval as a national level.

The role is pivotal in maintaining Austin Health's reputation as a national leader in liver transplantation, with strong links to DonateLife, and the Royal Children's Hospital.

A regular day will see you:

- Lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team delivering complex liver and intestinal transplant services
- Drive strategic innovation in clinical care, research and organ perfusion technologies in partnership with the Australian Centre of Transplantation Excellence and Research (ACTER)
- Champion patient-centred care, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement
- Provide professional mentorship and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and learning
- Ensure alignment with Austin Health's strategic priorities,



including access, quality, safety and budget performance.

About you

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in liver transplant surgery, including procurement, implantation and post-operative care
- Proven leadership in clinical governance, teaching and research
- A strategic mindset and ability to navigate complex clinical environments
