People & Culture Manager – Energy Locals
Full Time | Melbourne, VIC | Hybrid
Powering the future of urban communities
At Energy Locals, we’re reshaping how energy works in modern Australian buildings.
We partner with leading developers and owners corporations to deliver smarter, locally generated, carbon‑free energy solutions to apartments, communities and mixed‑use developments.
We’re proudly Australian‑owned and here to do energy differently — cheaper, cleaner and simpler.
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced People & Culture Manager to lead and deliver our People & Culture function at Energy Locals.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll work closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and people leaders to provide trusted advice, strengthen people practices, support HR compliance, and help create a positive and connected employee experience.
This is a broad, hands‑on role suited to an experienced HR generalist or senior HR business partner who is ready for greater ownership, visibility and variety.
You’ll be close to the business and involved in both strategic and practical People & Culture work — from coaching leaders and managing employee matters, to improving policies, workflows, reporting, engagement and recognition.
This role is about building trust, bringing calm and steady advice, and helping leaders make good people decisions in a growing business.
What does a typical day look like?
- Providing trusted, practical People & Culture advice to leaders and employees
- Coaching managers on performance, conduct, communication and workplace matters
- Supporting employee relations matters, including grievances, absence management and workplace issues
- Advising on employment obligations, Awards, policies, contracts, leave and people processes
- Preparing clear employment documentation, letters, templates and employee communications
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, probation, contract changes and offboarding
- Leading performance review, objective‑setting and feedback processes
- Coordinating engagement surveys, reporting and action planning
- Supporting recognition, employee milestones,
values‑based activities and team connection
- Improving People & Culture policies, workflows, templates and systems
- Managing employee records and workflows through Employment Hero
- Supporting WHS, wellbeing, EAP communication and people governance activities
- Preparing people reporting, insights and recommendations for senior leaders
- Creating simple, consistent and fit‑for‑purpose people practices
Who will you be working with?
You’ll join a team that puts customers at the centre of every decision. We’re hungry for growth, commercially grounded, clear in how we communicate, and committed to putting teamwork first.
As the People & Culture Manager, you’ll work closely with our COO, CEO, Executive Leadership Team and leaders across the business. You’ll also be a trusted and approachable point of contact for employees, helping create a workplace where people feel supported, connected and clear on what is expected.
Working with us
At Energy Locals, we support flexible ways of working and a collaborative team culture, helping our people stay connected, do their best work and grow with the changing needs of the business.
We offer:
- Hybrid working — with a city office on Flinders Street, right next to the station, and flexibility to work from home on agreed days
- Flexible ways of working — supporting balance, autonomy and the ability to do your best work
- Leave that supports balance — including a wellbeing leave day and purchased leave options
- A connected team culture — with social and team opportunities to build relationships, celebrate wins and stay connected
- Room to make an impact — your ideas, ownership and improvements can genuinely shape how we work
- Variety and ownership — a broad People & Culture role where you can make a visible contribution
About you
You’re an experienced HR generalist, senior HR business partner or People & Culture professional ready for greater ownership.
You bring strong HR expertise, sound judgement and a practical understanding of what valuable people practices look like. You know that effective People & Culture support is about trust, consistency, communication and balancing compliance with business needs.
You’re calm, steady and approachable. You can work through complex or sensitive people matters with maturity, advise leaders with confidence, and roll up your sleeves when needed.
You’ll enjoy this role if you like variety, ownership, relationships and making things better.
What you’ll bring
- Broad generalist HR or business partnering experience
- Strong employee relations and manager advisory capability
- Good working knowledge of Australian employment legislation and HR compliance requirements
- Experience with employment contracts, Awards, policies and workplace processes
- Confidence supporting performance, conduct, absence and workplace matters
- Strong written communication skills and clear employment documentation experience
- Experience supporting engagement, recognition, culture or employee experience initiatives
- Confidence working with senior leaders and providing practical, risk‑aware advice
- Experience with HR systems, ideally Employment Hero or a similar platform
- Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to build trust quickly
- A practical, calm and steady approach
- The ability to work independently in a broad, hands‑on role
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad People & Culture function in a growing business that values trust, practical advice and strong relationships.
You’ll work closely with leaders across the business and help continue building simple, effective and sustainable people practices.
This role would suit a senior HR business partner looking for the ownership and accountability of a People & Culture Manager role, while staying close to the business and involved in practical delivery.
