Lead Asset Reliability and Maintenance Performance at Australia's Premier Tungsten Operation
Group 6 Metals is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the maintenance, engineering and asset management functions at the Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island, Tasmania.
Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager, this critical leadership position is responsible for the reliability, availability and performance of all fixed plant, mobile equipment and site infrastructure.
As a key member of the site leadership team, you will provide strategic direction across maintenance, engineering and reliability while ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of site assets. About the Role
Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager, the Engineering Manager is accountable for the leadership and performance of all maintenance, engineering and reliability activities across the operation. You will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for fixed plant maintenance, mobile maintenance, electrical systems, planning, shutdown execution and asset management while driving a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading and promoting a culture where safety, health, environment and quality are integral to every activity.
- Providing strategic leadership across all engineering, maintenance and reliability functions.
- Driving equipment reliability, plant availability and asset performance across fixed and mobile assets.
- Developing and implementing maintenance strategies that optimise asset life cycle performance and operational efficiency.
- Leading maintenance planning and scheduling processes, including preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Managing departmental budgets, forecasts and expenditure to achieve operational and financial objectives.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity and cost reduction.
- Leading shutdown planning and execution to minimise operational disruption and maximise equipment performance.
- Overseeing asset management systems, maintenance reporting and performance analysis.
- Managing relationships with contractors, OEMs and service providers to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
- Supporting capital projects, plant upgrades and improvement initiatives through technical leadership and engineering expertise.
- Collaborating closely with Mining, Processing and Technical Services teams to optimise site-wide performance.
- Leading, mentoring and developing a capable and engaged maintenance and engineering workforce.
- Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and company requirements.
About You
The successful candidate will be an accomplished maintenance and engineering leader with a strong track record of improving asset performance within mining or heavy industrial operations.
You will possess
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge across fixed plant, mobile equipment and maintenance systems within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- 10+ years' experience in engineering, maintenance or asset management within mining, mineral processing or heavy industry.
- Significant leadership experience in a senior maintenance, reliability, engineering or asset management role.
- Demonstrated success improving equipment reliability, plant availability, cost performance and team capability.
- Solid understanding of asset management principles, maintenance planning and reliability improvement methodologies.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and contractors in an operational environment.
- Proven capability managing maintenance budgets, shutdowns and operational planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound operational decisions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- A visible leadership style with a commitment to safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Desirable
- Previous experience in an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Asset Manager, Reliability Manager or similar senior leadership role.
- Experience within hard-rock mining, mineral processing or critical minerals operations.
- Exposure to underground mining operations.
- Experience implementing reliability-centred maintenance or asset management frameworks.
- Experience with CMMS platforms such as Pronto, SAP, MEX or similar systems.
- Familiarity with capital project delivery and operational improvement initiatives.
