The office of the Hon Andrew Gee MP, Independent Federal Member for Calare, is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Electorate & Digital Communications Officer, based in the Calare Electorate in Orange, NSW.

Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, friendly and community-focused electorate office, helping deliver a high standard of service to the people of Calare while also helping tell the stories of our region through engaging digital communications.

The position combines traditional electorate officer responsibilities – including constituent assistance, casework, correspondence, research and community engagement – with a strong focus on social media and digital content.

The successful applicant will work closely with Andrew and the broader electorate team to identify local issues and stories, create engaging digital content, and communicate Andrew’s work across the electorate.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly organised person who enjoys working with people, writes well, has strong digital instincts and can comfortably move between constituent casework and creative communications.

Some travel throughout the electorate and occasional irregular hours will be required.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to

- Respond to constituent enquiries and undertake constituent casework.




- Liaise with Commonwealth and State Government departments, agencies and community organisations.
- Prepare correspondence, representations, briefing material and research on electorate and community issues.
- Assist with community engagement, meetings, events and electorate activities.
- Develop engaging content for social media and other digital platforms.
- Capture and produce photographs and short-form video content during community visits, events and announcements.
- Identify opportunities to highlight local people, organisations, achievements and issues through digital communications.
- Assist with maintaining the office’s digital presence and ensuring content is timely, accurate and engaging.
- Promote, support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
- Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- An ability to engage professionally, respectfully and compassionately with people from a broad range of backgrounds.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced workplace.
- Confidence using social media and digital platforms, with an eye for engaging content, photography and video.




- Experience in electorate work, government, community services, communications, digital media, journalism or a related field would be highly regarded.
- Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately.
- An understanding of, or demonstrated interest in, Australia’s system of government and parliamentary processes.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a small and busy team.
- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Employment conditions

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

A commencing salary between $79,525 and $92,846 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.

Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

Applicants should note the following

An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.

The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
