About Us

Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) is a partnership between Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) and international renewable energy company ACEN, delivering one of Australia’s largest Indigenous‑led renewable energy initiatives. Projects will be developed across Yindjibarndi Ngurra, 13,000 km² of Yindjibarndi Country in the Pilbara, ensuring Yindjibarndi ownership, participation and local benefit throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Environment & Heritage Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, governance and operational oversight of YEC's environmental and cultural heritage functions across project development, construction and operations.

As YEC's subject matter expert, you will lead environmental and heritage strategy, approvals, compliance, risk management and stakeholder engagement activities while providing trusted advice to the Executive Team. Working closely with Traditional Owners, regulators, consultants, contractors and project teams you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered in a way that protects environmental values, respects cultural heritage and meets all regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

- Develop and implement YEC's Environment and Heritage Strategy and annual business plans.

- Provide strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team on environmental, heritage and sustainability matters.

- Embed environmental and heritage considerations into project delivery.

- Support YEC's sustainability, biodiversity stewardship and ESG objectives.

Governance, Approvals & Compliance

- Lead environmental and cultural heritage management systems, standards and governance frameworks.

- Manage environmental impact assessments, heritage approvals and regulatory engagement.





- Oversee compliance with environmental approvals, Heritage Protection Agreements and management plans.

- Maintain legal obligation registers, audits and assurance programs.

Traditional Owner Engagement & Heritage Stewardship

- Build and maintain respectful and collaborative relationships with Traditional Owners and Yindjibarndi representatives.

- Coordinate heritage surveys, monitoring activities and field programs.

- Support project teams in meeting Native Title, tenure and land access obligations.

- Promote cultural awareness and understanding across the organisation.

Risk Management & Assurance

- Lead environmental and heritage risk assessments, investigations and audits.

- Manage environmental and heritage risk registers and corrective actions.

- Identify emerging regulatory and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.

- Oversee compliance with YEC management plans and approval conditions.

Leadership & Capability Development

- Lead, mentor and develop Environment & Heritage Coordinators and support broader organisational capability building.

- Manage specialist consultants and contractors.

- Deliver environmental, heritage and cultural awareness training and initiatives.

- Foster a culture of accountability, stewardship and continuous improvement.

About You

- You are a collaborative and influential leader who is passionate about balancing environmental protection, cultural heritage management and project delivery.

- To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Degree qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Archaeology, Anthropology or a related discipline.





- Minimum 8-10 years' experience in environmental and/or heritage management.

- Experience leading environment and heritage functions within renewable energy, mining, infrastructure, construction or resources sectors.

- Strong experience managing environmental approvals, including WA EPA (Part IV) and Commonwealth EPBC approval processes.

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal organisations, Traditional Owners and cultural heritage matters.

- Sound understanding of environmental legislation, cultural heritage legislation and Native Title frameworks.

- Strong leadership capability with experience managing teams.

- Proven experience in compliance, auditing, investigations and risk management.

- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.

- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and GIS software.

- Current WA C Class Driver's Licence and willingness to travel regularly.
