EOI - Advisor, Premiums & Markets – Workers Compensation
- Grade: 7/8
- Type of role: Ongoing
- Directorate: Supervision, WC
- Location: Sydney or Gosford
This role is open to ongoing at grade or Talent Pool employees only.
About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to join the Premiums & Markets team as an Advisor.
This is a great opportunity to develop into a higher role, or you may be at grade 7/8 and looking to expand your knowledge and experience base.
As an Advisor in the Premiums & Markets team, you will play an important role in supporting the Manager Premiums & Markets and the broader team in the financial oversight and monitoring of workers compensation insurers and self-insurers. Working within a dynamic regulatory environment, you will analyse financial and operational data to identify emerging risks, market trends, and potential areas of non-compliance, helping to ensure the ongoing stability and sustainability of the workers compensation scheme.
Key responsibilities:
- No two days are the same in this role. On any given day, you may be conducting section 189 financial security reviews of self-insurers, analysing financial statements, actuarial valuation reports and key financial indicators to assess financial sustainability and identify emerging risks. You will apply established risk rating methodologies to evaluate insurer performance and provide insights that support effective regulatory oversight.
- You will contribute to the ongoing monitoring of high-risk self-insurers through half-yearly financial reviews, helping to identify and mitigate potential insolvency risks. Working closely with senior team members, you will assist in the assessment of annual workers compensation premium filings, participate in stakeholder meetings, and prepare clear and accurate records of discussions and outcomes. You will balance competing priorities while delivering high-quality analysis and advice in a dynamic and evolving environment.
- Collaboration is central to this role.
You will work closely with the Insurer Supervision team and a range of internal stakeholders to support informed decision-making and effective risk management. You will identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting frameworks to enhance efficiency, consistency and robustness across the team's activities. You will also provide timely advice, contribute to problem-solving initiatives, and undertake additional projects and responsibilities as required.
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:
- You are a finance, accounting or related professional with strong analytical skills and experience interpreting financial information within a regulatory, insurance or risk management environment. You have a solid understanding of accounting principles and are confident reviewing complex financial data, identifying risks and trends, and translating technical findings into practical recommendations for stakeholders.
- You are comfortable working with legislation, policies and regulatory frameworks and have the ability to understand and apply workers compensation concepts in your day-to-day work. You are a proactive and adaptable professional who can manage a diverse workload, respond effectively to changing priorities and quickly learn new systems and platforms to access and analyse data.
- You build solid working relationships and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across the organisation. With excellent written and verbal communication skills, you are able to prepare clear advice, reports and briefing materials for managers and senior stakeholders. If you are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team focused on financial oversight, risk management and continuous improvement, we would love to hear from you.
