Commercial Insurance Building Estimator / Assessor
Location: Gold Coast, QLD
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent The Opportunity: An established and growing commercial construction business is seeking an experienced Commercial Insurance Building Estimator / Assessor to join its Queensland team on the Gold Coast.
This role will suit someone with strong experience across commercial insurance building claims, assessment, scoping and estimating, who is comfortable managing claims from initial site inspection through to detailed scope preparation, pricing and handover into construction.
You will work across a varied portfolio of commercial insurance projects and liaise closely with insurers, loss adjusters, consultants, clients, trades and internal project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend commercial properties and complete detailed building assessments.
- Assess damage and determine appropriate repair methodologies.
- Prepare detailed scopes of works for insurance repair and reinstatement projects.
- Produce accurate estimates, tenders and pricing documentation.
- Review drawings, engineering reports and consultant documentation.
- Identify insured damage, maintenance issues and pre-existing defects.
- Prepare clear and detailed assessment reports.
- Obtain and review subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Manage variations and additional works.
- Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, consultants, clients and contractors.
- Assist with tender preparation and pre-construction planning.
- Ensure estimates accurately account for labour, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries and project-specific costs.
- Maintain accurate claim documentation and reporting.
- Support the transition of projects from estimating and assessment into delivery.
About You To be considered, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in commercial insurance building estimating or assessment.
- Strong commercial construction knowledge.
- Experience preparing detailed scopes of works and cost estimates.
- Sound understanding of insurance building claims and reinstatement works.
- Experience dealing with insurers, loss adjusters and other insurance stakeholders.
- Solid report-writing and documentation skills.
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple claims and priorities.
- Confidence attending sites and dealing directly with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a broader project team.
Highly Regarded
- Trade or construction background.
- Building, construction management or quantity surveying qualifications.
- QBCC licence or relevant industry accreditation.
- Major loss or complex commercial claims experience.
- Experience across fire, flood, storm, impact and water damage.
- Experience with insurance estimating, claims management or construction software.
