Your opportunity
In this permanent part-time (4 days per week) role, as our Extension Advisor and Engagement Lead for Far North Queensland, you'll play a key role connecting farmers with the knowledge, people and programs that help dairy businesses thrive. Working across a unique and diverse region, you'll build trusted relationships, deliver extension activities and drive the adoption of practices that support farm productivity, profitability and sustainability. Based on the ground in the region, you'll become a valued adviser and connector within the local dairy community. This role will also provide limited technical support to a regional R&D; project currently in development.
Reporting to the Executive Officer / Regional Manager, Subtropical Dairy, you'll lead the implementation of regional extension and engagement activities, working closely with farmers, advisers, service providers and industry stakeholders in Far North Queensland to identify needs and deliver meaningful outcomes. The role combines extension delivery and farm engagement, ensuring farmer insights help shape future programs and initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Build robust relationships with dairy farmers and regional stakeholders
- Coordinate and deliver extension programs, events and on-farm services
- Provision of on-farm technical services relating to local R&D; projects
- Translate project findings and outputs into practical extension activities, resources and on-farm adoption
- Identify opportunities to drive practice change and business improvement
- Connect farmers with relevant services, resources and expertise
- Support the planning, evaluation and reporting of regional programs
- Capture engagement activity and insights through Salesforce
- Work collaboratively with regional and national teams to achieve industry outcomes
- Ensure farmer feedback informs future program development and delivery
About you
You’ll be someone who enjoys working directly with farmers and rural communities and is passionate about helping people achieve practical outcomes.
You’ll bring:
- Experience delivering extension, advisory or agricultural industry programs
- The ability to translate technical or research information into practical, farmer-focused extension
- An ability to support other team members in the delivery of regional development projects
- A strong understanding of dairy farming systems and farm business challenges
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences
- The ability to coordinate multiple activities and work independently
- Experience analysing farm production, business or biophysical information
- A tertiary qualification in agriculture,
veterinary science or a related discipline
- A current driver's licence and the ability to travel across the region
