About Pace Live
Pace Live is an Australian based global entertainment company that develops, produces, promotes, and tours premium theatrical productions. Our work spans financing, development, creative and technical production, tour scheduling, marketing, and facilitation, delivered through a complete end to end model.
Supported by growing global infrastructure and trusted relationships with theatres, promoters, and industry partners across key international markets, we don't just create our productions. We tour them, book the venues, promote the seasons, and present them directly to audiences around the world.
Our productions have reached audiences across Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, the United States (including Current York's Off Broadway), and the United Kingdom (including London's West End), and our global touring footprint continues to expand.
About the Role
We're hiring a Financial Controller to own the numbers for a multi entity international group.
Pace Live operates across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada, running more than two hundred shows a year. That means multiple entities, multiple currencies, multiple tax jurisdictions, and intercompany movement between all of them. Someone needs to own that properly and make it clean, current, and reliable.
That's this role. You own month end close, group consolidation, cashflow forecasting, compliance across every jurisdiction, and the finance team underneath you. You report directly to the founders and work alongside our external advisers in Australia, the US, and the UK.
We're at a point where the business needs finance to report to us rather than us chasing finance. This role exists to make that true.
It's a hands on Controller position, not a hands off one. You will build the reporting, not just review it.
On hours and flexibility
We would rather have the right person on four days than the wrong person on five.
This role can be structured as three or four days per week with the option to move to full time as the business grows, or as a full time role with genuine flexibility around how those hours are worked. Tell us in your application what arrangement you're looking for and we'll have a real conversation about it.
Two things that don't flex. Month end close week is full time, and there are fixed office days so the team knows when you're there. Beyond that, we're open.
What You'll Actually Do
Group reporting and close
- Own month end close across every entity, delivered by the 15th, every month, without exception.
- Produce the consolidated group P&L;, balance sheet, and cashflow, with commentary that explains the movement rather than just presenting it.
- Own the chart of accounts and coding integrity across all entities.
- Produce show and tour level profitability reporting so we know which productions and which markets actually make money.
- Prepare founder and board reporting packs on a fixed cycle.
Cashflow and forecasting
- Build and maintain a rolling 13 week cashflow forecast, reconciled to the bank, updated fortnightly.
- Build and maintain the annual budget and reforecast against it.
- Manage the group cash position across currencies and entities, and flag pressure before it arrives, not after.
- Model the cash impact of touring schedules, on sales, and settlement timing.
Intercompany and entity management
- Execute and maintain the intercompany charging model so group reporting is accurate rather than retrospective.
- Reconcile intercompany balances monthly.
- Maintain the entity register and coordinate with our external accountants in each jurisdiction.
- Own the "who pays what from where" discipline so costs sit against the right entity.
Compliance and tax
- Own the compliance calendar across all jurisdictions. BAS, PAYG, super, GST, VAT, and equivalents, lodged on time, every time.
- Coordinate annual accounts and audit preparation with external advisers across four jurisdictions.
- Support the group toward lender ready and investor ready financials.
- Maintain the insurance register and renewals.
Payroll
- Oversee payroll across multiple countries and cycles, including cast, crew, and office.
- Ensure superannuation, PAYG, and equivalent obligations in each jurisdiction are met.
Team leadership
- Manage the Accounts Administrator and the Assistant Accountant. Set their priorities, review their work, and lift the standard.
- Build the finance function as the business scales.
Systems and process
- Own Xero and the finance tech stack, and improve it.
- Document how finance actually runs, so the function does not live in anyone's head.
- Identify where automation and AI can take the manual work out, and implement it.
What Success Looks Like
- Close lands by the 15th and the numbers are trusted.
- The founders can see the cash position and the forward view at any time without asking for it.
- Intercompany is current and reconciled rather than an annual clean up exercise.
- Nothing is lodged late in any jurisdiction.
- We know which shows and which markets make money and by how much.
- The team beneath you is delivering to standard.
- The books are in a state a lender or investor would accept.
Who You Are
- You own the numbers. If something is wrong you find it, fix it, and tell us.
- You are hands on. You are as comfortable in the detail as you are presenting the summary.
- You are commercially minded. You understand that finance exists to help the business make better decisions, not to produce reports.
- You are direct. You raise problems early and you do not soften bad numbers.
- You are organised under pressure. Multiple entities, multiple deadlines, nothing missed.
- You can lead. You set a standard for the people beneath you and hold it.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity. This is a growing business, not a mature one, and some of this you will be building for the first time.
What You'll Need
- CA or CPA qualified, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or senior accounting role.
- Demonstrated multi entity consolidation experience. This is essential.
- Experience with international operations, foreign currency, and cross border compliance.
- Ownership of month end close in a group environment.
- Cashflow forecasting and budgeting experience.
- Experience managing at least one direct report.
- Strong Xero capability.
- Advanced Excel.
- Strong written communication. You will be explaining numbers to people who are not accountants.
Nice to Have
- Live entertainment, touring, events, media, or production industry experience.
- Experience with transfer pricing or intercompany charging models.
- Experience preparing a business for lending, investment, or audit.
- Exposure to US, UK, NZ, or Canadian tax and compliance.
- Experience implementing finance systems or automation.
The Practicals
Hours: Three to four days per week with a path to full time, or full time with flexible hours. Core business activity sits around 9am to 5pm AEST. Salary: $140,000 to $160,000 per annum plus superannuation on a full time equivalent basis, pro rata for part time, commensurate with experience.
