About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Sports and Turf Maintenance Officer to support the maintenance of sports fields and a golf course to a high qualified standard. This role involves applying horticulture and turf management skills, operating specialised equipment, and ensuring playing surfaces are safe, well-presented and maintained to required standards. Working within a team environment, you will contribute to high-quality outcomes for sporting users, the public, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintain sports fields, turf wickets and golf course surfaces to required standards.
- Undertake turf and horticulture tasks including mowing, brush cutting, fertilising, planting, weed control and sand/soil work.
- Carry out turf renovation, renewal and maintenance works in line with programs and industry standards.
- Assist with basic maintenance of sporting infrastructure such as irrigation, goals and synthetic surfaces.
- Conduct basic audits and risk assessments and assist in implementing solutions.
- Support cleansing tasks including rubbish collection and graffiti removal.
- Use corporate IT systems as required and maintain accurate records of work completed.
- Provide positive and timely customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Contribute to a professional, respectful and safe workplace environment.




- To have knowledge of turf management practices and machinery that relate to the maintenance of turf, including backhoe and kanga loader.
- Assist with preparation, maintenance & set out turf cricket wickets and croquet greens as needed and inspect wickets regularly for readiness and suitability for play.
- Assist in the preparation and cleaning of synthetic pitches and wicket covers in the seasonal change of sport.
- Perform routine maintenance on sportsfield associated assets e.g. goal posts, boundary fences, spoon drains, harvesting & laying of turf sods and synthetic wickets.
- Safe and competent driving of vehicles up to 13.9 tonnes GCM.
- Assist in the installation, construction and maintenance of drainage and irrigation systems.
- Assist in programming watering systems, marking irrigation heads, detecting and reporting faults.
- Provide support to other areas of the Parks and Natural Environment Department.

Key Requirements:

- Certificate 3 in Turf Management or relevant industry experience
- Knowledge of turf management practices and machinery that relate to the maintenance of turf.
- Relevant competencies in the safe operation of F.E.L
- Knowledge in irrigation system operation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of turf wicket and croquet green preparation.
- Understanding of/or aptitude for maintenance and operation of machinery.
- Completed White Card Training
- Agricultural Chemical Users Certificate.
- Front End Loader/Tractor accreditation.
