As LIHE enters its next phase of growth, we are seeking an experienced and highly capable academic leader to provide strategic academic leadership across the Institute.

About the Role

The Academic Dean is a senior academic leadership position responsible for providing strategic leadership across LIHE's higher education operations.

The Academic Dean will provide leadership in academic quality, regulatory compliance, curriculum development, teaching and learning, scholarship, academic workforce development and continuous improvement, while supporting the effective functioning and independence of LIHE's academic governance framework.

The position will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Registrar, Academic Board, academic leaders, Course Coordinators and professional staff to ensure that LIHE's courses and academic operations meet the requirements of the Higher Education Standards Framework, TEQSA, professional accreditation bodies and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

The Academic Dean will also play an important role in LIHE's continued growth, including new course development, course accreditation and reaccreditation, professional accreditation, academic workforce planning and the development of institutional academic capability.

Key Responsibilities

- Providing strategic academic leadership and oversight across LIHE's higher education programs.
- Establishing and promoting an institutional vision for academic excellence, teaching and learning, scholarship and continuous improvement.
- Ensuring that LIHE's academic operations comply with the Higher Education Standards Framework, TEQSA requirements and other applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Providing senior academic leadership for TEQSA registration and course accreditation matters, including new course applications, course renewals, regulatory responses and institutional self-assurance.
- Leading the development, review, benchmarking and continuous improvement of courses, curricula and subjects.
- Supporting the effective operation and independence of the Academic Board and other academic governance committees.
- Preparing and presenting academic matters, course proposals,



quality reports and regulatory matters to relevant governance committees.
- Leading and managing academic staff, including workforce planning, recruitment, induction, performance management, mentoring and career development.
- Ensuring academic staff maintain appropriate qualifications, disciplinary expertise, scholarship and professional currency.
- Providing leadership in scholarship, research and scholarly activity and supporting the development of LIHE's institutional research capability.
- Monitoring student progression, retention, completion, academic integrity, assessment quality and other academic performance indicators and ensuring appropriate interventions and continuous improvement actions are implemented.
- Ensuring effective implementation and regular review of academic policies, procedures and quality assurance frameworks.
- Providing leadership in academic risk identification, monitoring and mitigation.
- Supporting new course development and ensuring appropriate academic and regulatory due diligence prior to submission for accreditation.
- Providing leadership and oversight for professional accreditation processes where applicable.
- Contributing to institutional strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation and sustainable growth.
- Supporting innovation in teaching and learning, including technology-enhanced, online and blended learning.
- Teaching into undergraduate and postgraduate programs where appropriate.
- Representing LIHE in engagements with regulators, professional bodies, industry, academic partners and other external stakeholders.
- Developing productive relationships with industry, government, professional bodies and the broader higher education sector.
- Undertaking other senior academic leadership responsibilities consistent with the position.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

- A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in higher education, including substantial experience in senior academic leadership roles.
- Demonstrated senior academic leadership experience, including leadership and management of academic staff.
- Extensive experience in curriculum design, course development, course approval, review, benchmarking and quality assurance.
- Strong knowledge and practical understanding of the Australian higher education regulatory environment, including the Higher Education Standards Framework and TEQSA requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with TEQSA regulatory processes, preferably including provider registration, course accreditation or reaccreditation, regulatory submissions, Requests for Information and/or institutional self-assurance activities.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with Academic Boards and academic governance committees.
- Experience in academic quality assurance, academic risk management and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and improve student outcomes, including progression, retention,



completion and academic performance.
- Experience in academic workforce planning, recruitment, performance management and staff development.
- Evidence of contemporary disciplinary expertise through scholarship, research and/or professional practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and developing institutional scholarship and research capability.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with regulators, professional accreditation bodies, industry and other external stakeholders.
- A strong commitment to inclusive education, academic integrity, student success and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current knowledge of developments in Australian higher education.

Following experience and attributes will be highly regarded:

- Experience leading academic operations within a new, growing or developing higher education provider.
- Significant experience in developing and obtaining accreditation for new higher education courses.
- Experience with professional accreditation processes and professional accreditation bodies.
- Experience responding to TEQSA assessments, Requests for Information or other regulatory matters.
- Experience with online, blended and technology-enhanced learning environments.
- Experience developing institutional research and scholarship capability.
- Senior membership or fellowship of a relevant professional or academic association.
- Experience representing a higher education institution externally in regulatory, academic, industry or professional contexts.

LIHE offers an attractive executive-level remuneration and benefits package reflecting the seniority and strategic importance of the Academic Dean position.

The successful candidate will receive:

- Competitive remuneration, negotiable based on experience and demonstrated capability as a Dean within a higher education institution or University
- Superannuation in addition to the agreed remuneration, in accordance with applicable legislation

LIHE is specifically seeking a candidate with demonstrated experience serving as a Dean in a higher education institution. The final remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, taking into consideration their experience, qualifications, academic leadership record and regulatory expertise.
