Full-Time Senior Barista / Coffee Lead – Bistro KAI Chatswood

Bistro KAI is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Barista / Coffee Lead to take ownership of our coffee operation.

This is more than a traditional barista role.

We are looking for someone who can make excellent coffee, but also has the creativity, personality and business mindset to help us grow KAI’s coffee business, increase morning trade and build a strong coffee community around the brand.

Key Responsibilities

•⁠ ⁠Prepare consistently high-quality coffee with strong espresso, milk texturing and latte art skills

•⁠ ⁠Independently open, set up, operate and close the coffee station

•⁠ ⁠Take ownership of coffee quality, cleanliness, stock and daily organisation

•⁠ ⁠Build genuine relationships with customers and turn new customers into regulars

•⁠ ⁠Actively look for ways to increase coffee sales, morning traffic and repeat business

•⁠ ⁠Develop and test new coffee drinks, seasonal specials and creative beverage ideas

•⁠ ⁠Recommend and sell KAI’s coffee beans, specialty drinks and retail products

•⁠ ⁠Help create promotions, loyalty ideas and campaigns that drive sales

•⁠ ⁠Understand what customers want and identify opportunities to improve the coffee offering

•⁠ ⁠Be comfortable with Instagram, TikTok and social media content, including helping create ideas and simple coffee-related content

•⁠ ⁠Work with the KAI team to make our coffee offering more visible, exciting and commercially successful





•⁠ ⁠Treat the coffee section as your own small business within KAI and take responsibility for its growth

What We’re Looking For

•⁠ ⁠Minimum 3 years’ professional barista experience required

•⁠ ⁠Strong espresso, grinder adjustment, milk texturing and latte art skills

•⁠ ⁠Confident working independently without constant supervision

•⁠ ⁠Reliable and capable of independently opening and closing

•⁠ ⁠Friendly, outgoing and naturally positive at talking to customers

•⁠ ⁠Strong customer service and relationship-building skills

•⁠ ⁠Commercial and sales-minded

•⁠ ⁠Creative and interested in developing new drinks and ideas

•⁠ ⁠Interested in social media, content creation and current coffee trends

•⁠ ⁠Able to identify opportunities rather than simply wait for instructions

•⁠ ⁠Strong sense of ownership and responsibility

•⁠ ⁠Experience in sales, social media, marketing or business development is highly valued The Person We Want
