Coal Services is seeking an experienced Head of Compliance to establish, embed, and oversee the organisation’s compliance framework to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and internal policies
This is a unique opportunity to manage and own the function that supports informed decision-making, strengthens governance, and safeguards the organisation’s reputation by promoting a strong culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive team and the regulators and government bodies, you will establish a proactive compliance culture, identify and manage regulatory and operational risks, and provide independent assurance that critical obligations are being effectively managed.
Responsibilities will include
- Developing and implementing the organisation’s compliance strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Ensure compliance responsibilities are clearly defined across operational and corporate functions
- Establish clear compliance standards, policies, procedures and controls across coal-services operations
- Lead and embed a strong compliance and ethical culture across the organisation.
- Provide expert advice to Executive Leadership and the Board on regulatory obligations, emerging risks, breaches and corrective actions.
- Ensure the organisation complies with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain and oversee the compliance framework, policies, and procedures.
- Manage compliance breaches and participate in incident investigations.
- Promote and maintain awareness of compliance obligations and ethical standards.
- Drive ongoing improvements in compliance systems, processes, and frameworks.
- Implement best practice compliance and governance standards.
About you:
Your education, experience and skills will include:
- Extensive experience (10 years) in compliance, risk, or regulatory roles.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory environments.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators and managing audits.
- Experience in insurance, workers compensation compliance and auditing
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Finance, Risk, or Business.
- Proven leadership experience in a senior compliance position.
- Strategic thinking combined with operational execution capability
- Ability to interpret legislation, regulations, codes of practice, licences, permits and contractual requirements
- Ability to identify changes in legislation and assess their impact on the business
- Strong understanding of compliance registers, controls, policies, procedures and assurance programs
- Ability to identify compliance gaps and develop practical corrective actions
- Understanding of risk controls,
risk appetite and escalation requirements
