Aftershock PC Australia · Melbourne, in-office · Full-time, permanent $150,000 – $180,000 base + superannuation + performance bonus
What this is:
Aftershock PC is the leading Performance PC company in Australia. Its roots are in Gaming PC's, but has strong growth in Enterprise workstations.
We spend a few million $ a year on paid media across Meta, TikTok and Google, and we do it efficiently — our return on ad spend is well above what most ecommerce operators would consider strong.
We're looking for someone exceptional at marketing to take that further, and to build the infrastructure that lets us scale it.
You'll report directly to our Director and run marketing.
Read this part before anything else:
We've met plenty of people who can describe a brilliant marketing plan. Far fewer can build it, ship it, measure it, and then do it again the following week.
We're hiring the second kind.
If your best work is a deck, this isn't for you. If your best work is a number you moved — and you can tell us exactly what you changed, what failed on the way, and why it eventually worked — keep reading.
Why this role exists:
We've grown faster than our infrastructure. The marketing function was built for a much smaller business, and it's now running significant revenue and a reliable media budget. The people are good and the results are good. What's missing is the layer underneath: consistent measurement, planned testing, and a way of capturing what we learn so it compounds instead of evaporating.
That layer doesn't build itself, and it can't be built part-time from the Director's desk, or by someone with mediocre to good results. That's the job.
You won't inherit a machine and tune it 5%. You'll build the machine around one that already works, but a twin-turbo charger and give it an ECU tune. If that sounds like a slog, don't apply. If it sounds like the most fun you could have with a real budget and a genuinely capable team, keep going.
What you'll actually do:
Run the paid media across Meta, TikTok and Google and anywhere else that we should. You're in the accounts. You audit them yourself. You make the calls and you own the numbers.
Scale without breaking efficiency. Our returns are strong.
The interesting problem is growing spend while holding them — new channels, new audiences, creative volume, and knowing which growth is incremental and which isn't.
Build the operating system. A weekly cadence that runs, a testing log that stays current, channel playbooks, and reporting our Director can read and trust. At our scale, guessing is expensive.
Develop the team. Two senior leads, ad buyers, content and creative talent, and an in-house studio covering design, video and photography. Around 15 people direct and indirect across multiple locations. You'll set the standard, coach against it, and give people the structure to do their best work.
Sharpen measurement. Attribution, incrementality testing, MER, contribution margin. You become the person who can state precisely what marketing is contributing.
Use AI properly. We're already building internal tools. You'll shape it and push it further.
What you need to have done:
Not "be capable of". Have done.
5+ years hands-on in paid social and/or paid search, personally owning accounts at $1M+ annual spend. You can log in, diagnose and fix. You are not two steps removed from the account.
Scaled a well-performing account and made it world class, not just rescued a broken one. Taking something poor and making it adequate is a different skill. We want someone who has grown spend materially while protecting return.
A number you're proud of, and a story you can defend. An account you took somewhere real — the before, the after, the timeframe, and the specific changes you made. We will push hard on this.
Raised someone's performance. A specific person, a specific improvement, a specific thing you did.
Held a hard accountability conversation and kept the working relationship intact afterwards.
Shipped on time, repeatedly. You plan, you sequence, you follow through, and things don't quietly fall over.
Written clearly. If you can't write it down, we can't scale it.
Unrestricted working rights in Australia, and based in (or relocating to) Melbourne.
Nice to have:
Ecommerce or considered-purchase retail — higher order values, longer consideration cycles.
You build with AI, not just chat with it. Automations, internal tools, agents — something you made that other people now depend on.
Experience leading distributed teams.
You'll hate it here if:
You need a fully-formed brief before you can start.
Your instinct is to do the work yourself rather than lift the person next to you.
You can't say "I was wrong about that" in a meeting.
You'd rather present a plan than run one.
What we offer:
Direct access to the Director. Short decision chains, no committee.
Real budget and real authority over how it's spent.
A talented team, a channel mix that's already profitable, and a clear mandate to build on both.
$150,000 – $180,000 base depending on experience, plus superannuation.
Performance bonus reviewed twice yearly against a written scorecard you receive on day one. Roughly half is tied to profitable growth, half to building the operating system and lifting the team.
Melbourne office, West Melbourne. This role is in-office [4] days a week — the coaching, working beside the director, and team-building part of this job doesn't work just over Slack.
How to apply:
Read this part carefully. We're hiring for attention to detail, so this is the first test.
Send your Resume plus two short written answers — 300 words maximum for both combined.
1. You've just taken over a paid account spending $200,000 a month. It's already performing well. You've been asked to double the spend without giving up efficiency, and the buyer who runs it is talented but documents nothing and explains decisions by "feel". You have 90 days. What are the first three things you do, and how will you know you were right?
2. The single best result you have personally delivered in an ad account. Give us the numbers: spend, starting metric, ending metric, timeframe, and the specific changes you made.
Applications without both answers won't be reviewed.
