Assistant Bistro Manager — The Broadwater Bistro, The Henley on Broadwater
Daytime hospitality leadership, done properly. Breakfast and lunch service, seven days a week, and you are home by mid afternoon. No nights. No split shifts. No 1am closes.
The Broadwater Bistro sits inside The Henley on Broadwater, a 25 level residence on Marine Parade, Southport, home to 130 residents. Most of them walk through the bistro every single day. They have a table they prefer. A coffee order you will learn inside a week. A story they will finish on Thursday because they started it on Tuesday.
That is the job in one line. Not turning tables. Knowing people.
The offer
$38 – $42 per hour plus super, depending on experience
Part time, 4 days per week including regular Saturday and Sunday shifts
Daytime service only — breakfast and lunch
Genuine second-in-charge scope: weekend leadership, functions, and team development are yours to own
Full training in everything the role needs, including the specialist parts
A leadership team that takes skilled pride seriously, and guests who will know your name by the end of week one
What you will be doing
Lead front of house across breakfast and lunch and set the tone on the floor
Run the bistro on weekends as the senior person in the building — decisions, standards and team direction sit with you
Coordinate private functions from first enquiry through to delivery, and work with our Lifestyle Coordinator on community events and celebrations
Support rostering, coach junior team members,
and step up into the senior operational role when required
Own the daily disciplines: food safety, stock support, kitchen liaison
What makes this role different
Our guests are our residents. Some are in their seventies and still working. Others are in their nineties and living with dementia, low vision, hearing loss or modified diets. For some of them, the twenty minutes they spend with you is the main human contact of their day.
So we will train you in things a standard bistro never would: texture modified diets, allergen management where health depends on getting it right, and serving someone in a way that protects their independence rather than doing it for them. You do not need any of this on day one. You do need to genuinely want it — it is not a bolt-on to the role, it is the role. If knowing your guests deeply sounds like the best part of hospitality rather than a compliance requirement, you will thrive here.
What we are looking for
Supervisory or senior service experience in a cafe, bistro or restaurant
Experience coordinating functions or events from enquiry to delivery
Genuine warmth and patience with older people
Sound food safety knowledge, and willingness to complete our aged care training modules
Availability across 4 days per week including regular weekend shifts
Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one
Aged care, retirement living or hospital hospitality experience is an advantage, not a requirement. Attitude to people is the deciding factor.
