ASC is Australia's submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy's Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats' service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation's nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia's history.

About the opportunity:

Reporting to the Group Internal Audit Manager, the Internal Audit Lead is the senior operational position within ASC's Group Internal Audit function and acts as deputy to the Manager. The role will lead the delivery of complex and strategic internal audits in line with the Audit Committee approved Internal Audit Plan, providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services that improve ASC's governance, risk management and internal control framework.

The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy, managing multiple concurrent audit engagements, developing risk-based audit strategies, reviewing audit work and ensuring outcomes are delivered to a consistently high professional standard. As the delegated representative of the Group Internal Audit Manager, the role regularly engages with ASC's Executive Leadership Team members, senior management, Board Committee members and external assurance providers, and represents the Internal Audit function at senior governance forums such as the Audit Committee and Executive Committee.

The role also provides leadership, coaching and technical guidance to audit resources, influences risk and control outcomes across the organisation, and contributes to the continuous improvement of ASC's Internal Audit framework, methodology and strategic assurance capability.

About you:

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related Business field
- Professional qualifications such as CIA, CA, CPA, CISA or equivalent (highly desirable)
- Membership or eligibility for membership to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
- Minimum 10 years' experience in internal auditing roles, including 5 years within a large, complex organisation
- Demonstrated experience independently leading complex internal audits from planning through to Audit Committee reporting
- Proven ability to influence Executive-level stakeholders and manage sensitive relationships
- Experience developing multi-year, risk-based Internal Audit Plans and presenting to Executive Committees, Audit Committees and Boards
- Experience acting in a deputy capacity or providing senior support to an Internal Audit Manager or Chief Audit Executive
- Strong executive presence, stakeholder management skills and a commitment to ethical leadership
- This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Why this prospect? This is a rare chance to step into a senior, high-visibility role with a clear line of sight to Executive and Board-level engagement, within an organisation that plays a genuinely critical role in Australia's national security. The successful candidate will have the autonomy to shape audit strategy and directly influence risk and governance outcomes at the highest levels of the business.
