The Freedom to Build. The Support to Succeed.
At AW Maritime, we believe the best engineers don't just deliver great projects—they build trusted client relationships, mentor emerging engineers and help shape the future of our business. We're looking for a Lead or Senior Engineer to join our growing Queensland team. While this role is based on the Sunshine Coast, this role is hybrid with flexibility to work from home part of the week.
This is an opportunity to work on some of Australia's most interesting maritime and coastal infrastructure projects while enjoying the support, technical depth and reputation of Australia's leading specialist maritime consultancy.
About AW Maritime
AW Maritime is Australia's leading specialist maritime and coastal engineering consultancy. We provide independent engineering advice across ports, harbours, jetties, dredging, coastal infrastructure and marine asset management. Our clients include port authorities, government agencies, contractors and private industry throughout Australia.
Unlike large multidisciplinary consultancies, maritime and coastal engineering isn't one of many services—it is our business. Our specialist focus allows us to provide practical, independent advice backed by decades of experience delivering projects in the maritime environment. Our size is one of our greatest strengths.
We make decisions quickly, work directly with our clients and give our people the opportunity to influence the direction of the company.
The Role
As a Lead/Senior Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to construction support while developing long-term relationships with clients across Queensland and nationally. You'll work closely with our Principals and Directors, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth of AW Maritime throughout Queensland.
This role offers significant autonomy while providing the support of an experienced national team of maritime specialists.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver maritime and coastal engineering projects.
· Manage project scope, budgets, programmes and client expectations.
· Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
· Identify opportunities to provide additional value to existing clients.
· Prepare engineering designs, technical reports and specifications.
· Lead investigations, inspections and condition assessments.
· Prepare proposals and contribute to winning new work.
· Mentor and develop graduate and developing engineers.
· Coordinate project teams and subconsultants.
· Maintain high standards of technical quality, safety and professionalism.
About You
We are seeking someone who wants to make a genuine impact rather than simply occupy a role. You'll likely have:
· Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
· Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) and RPEQ.
· Approximately 5-10 years' consulting experience.
· Experience in maritime, coastal or heavy civil infrastructure.
· Strong project management and commercial awareness.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· The ability to build confidence with clients.
· A collaborative leadership style and willingness to mentor others.
At AW Maritime you'll enjoy:
· Genuine autonomy and flexibility.
· Direct access to decision-makers.
· Minimal bureaucracy.
· Chance to influence company strategy and technical direction.
· Competitive remuneration.
· A collaborative, supportive culture.
· Working alongside Australia's leading maritime engineering specialists.
· Shaping Australia's leading specialist maritime and coastal engineering consultancy.
