CPCS are a child/young person and caregiver trauma-specific service responding to violence, abuse and neglect. This position provides counselling and psychoeducation to children and young people, as well as their parents and caregivers. The overarching purpose is to work towards safety from harm for the child/young person and their family members (including parents and other children/young people). The focus interventions being to maintain the child or young person in their family where possible with the intention to prevent recurrence of abuse, as well as to prevent placement breakdown, and assist families to address the impacts and effects of violence, abuse and neglect.



As well as individual or joint counselling sessions for children, young people and their caregivers. CPCS assist parents and caregivers to make positive changes so that they are better able to look after the safety and wellbeing of their children. Interventions with caregivers often include learning about what trauma does do the body and the brain and providing strategies to manage and process the effects as well as psychoeducation around parenting.

Counselling with children and adults/caregivers will be the core task of the position, however co-ordination of health service delivery, and advocacy for client interests within the child protection response will also be responsibilities. CPCS clinicians also provide consultation, support and education and training for health workers on child protection issues and concerns.

Violence, Abuse and Neglect services are provided under the Priority Populations Program (PPP) within the MLHD. These services are integrated and work alongside each other to collaborate with joint projects, training and joint work with clients and families as required

Position Classification: Psychologist / Social Worker Level 1/2 / Counsellor 1/2

Remuneration: $79,419.00 - $122,465.00 per annum (+ super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)

Hours Per Week: up to 38

What We’re Looking For

- Hold relevant Australian recognised tertiary qualification with registration or skilled peak body eligibility.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision‑making ability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Current Drivers Licence
