A growing Australian fintech is looking to appoint a Legal Counsel into a broad, commercially focused role working closely with senior management and teams across the business.
This is an chance to take on a genuinely hands-on in-house position, with exposure to commercial agreements, strategic partnerships, regulatory matters and the wider growth of the business. Rather than operating purely as a legal adviser, you'll work alongside commercial teams to understand what they're trying to achieve, manage the key risks and help get deals done.
The Role
You'll be involved across a range of areas, including:
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with lenders, corporate partners and technology providers.
- Supporting new partnerships, products and broader growth initiatives.
- Advising the business on regulatory, privacy and general commercial matters.
- Working closely with senior management on corporate and governance matters.
- Supporting commercial disputes and other legal issues as they arise.
- Helping improve legal processes as the business continues to grow.
- Managing external legal advisers where specialist support is required.
About You You'll ideally have 4+ years' PQE, with experience across corporate/commercial, banking & finance or technology, gained within a reputable law firm or relevant in-house environment. You'll have an Australian practising certificate, strong drafting and negotiation skills and, importantly, a commercial and pragmatic approach to providing legal advice. You'll be comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders and taking ownership of matters rather than simply providing technical legal advice.
The Opportunity
This would suit a lawyer looking for a broader and more commercial in-house role within a growing fintech or financial services business. You'll have direct exposure to senior leadership, be involved in important commercial decisions and have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as the business continues to grow.
