Working as part of a professional vessel crew, the MED1 will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and monitoring of the vessel's machinery and engineering systems.
Key responsibilities
- Operating and monitoring the Yanmar 1,370 kW main engine, generators and associated machinery
- Carrying out routine engine room inspections and machinery checks
- Performing preventative maintenance and general mechanical repairs
- Identifying and reporting mechanical issues and equipment faults
- Maintaining accurate engine room logs and records
- Assisting with repairs and maintenance throughout the vessel
- Supporting fishing operations and ensuring machinery is ready for use
- Assisting with vessel unloads and general operational duties when required
- Maintaining a clean, protected and organised engine room
- Complying with all vessel safety, environmental and operational procedures
- Working closely with the Skipper and deck crew to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations
About you
- Qualified as a Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 (MED1)
- Experienced in commercial marine operations, preferably on fishing vessels
- Reliable, practical and mechanically minded
- Safety-conscious with a strong understanding of marine engineering procedures
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a close-knit crew
- Professional, hardworking and willing to assist across vessel operations
- Able to work away from home for multi-day fishing trips
