General Practitioner

(Virtual Care / AMS Inter-Care Support)

Virtual Care acting as a vital safety net between regular GP visits to ensure continuity of care, zero missed health milestones, and culturally proficient medical support.

Role Description

This is a remote, contract role for a General Practitioner working within a telehealth environment to bridge the gaps between a patient’s regular face-to-face clinic visits.

The General Practitioner will conduct virtual consultations, proactively monitor and manage chronic conditions between standard appointments, and provide rapid-access preventive health advice tailored to individual and community needs.

Day-to-day tasks include reviewing patient histories to catch missed follow-ups, ordering and interpreting outstanding investigations, managing prescription continuations, and tightly coordinating care with primary AMS clinics.





The role heavily focuses on ensuring no patient falls through the cracks, documenting clinical encounters accurately, maintaining continuity of care, and contributing to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice in collaboration with the First Nations Health team.

Qualifications

- Current medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated experience in general practice, family medicine, or primary care, including management of common chronic diseases.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and prescribing skills suitable for telehealth delivery.
- Understanding of and commitment to culturally safe care, particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health contexts.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport via phone or video.
- Comfort with digital health platforms, electronic medical records, and secure messaging systems.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional indemnity insurance and eligibility to provide bulk-billed services under Medicare.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or completion of relevant cultural safety training is highly regarded.
- Availability to work flexible hours to meet patient and community needs across different time zones and locations.
