Support and scale critical healthcare infrastructureSt Vincent's Health Australia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team, supporting the stability, security, and performance of enterprise infrastructure across clinical, corporate, and research environments.This is a hands-on technical role suited to experienced engineers who thrive in complex environments and are passionate about automation, cyber resilience, and high-availability systems.

About the role

n

You will play a key role in maintaining and evolving SVHA's core infrastructure platforms across Windows, Linux, virtualisation, storage, and hybrid cloud environments.In this role you will:

n

n
- Lead or contribute to system design, implementation, and optimisation
n
- Provide advanced operational support and incident resolution
n
- Take ownership of infrastructure platforms across the full lifecycle (design, operate, optimise, retire)
n

n

The role also contributes to enterprise projects and works closely with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to deliver integrated, resilient solutions.

n

Key responsibilities

n

n
- Maintain and optimise Windows, Linux, VMware, and hybrid cloud, plus core services (Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, DHCP,



file, certificates)
n
- Run patching, vulnerability remediation, and audit readiness with the Cybersecurity team
n
- Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity strategy and testing
n
- Use automation and scripting to reduce manual effort and repetitive work
n
- Maintain monitoring and alerting to keep systems healthy and available
n
- Operate within ITIL-aligned incident, change, and problem management, and act as an escalation point for major incidents
n

What you will bring

n

Essential

n

n
- Substantial hands-on experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering
n
- Deep capability across Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Exchange
n
- Backup and recovery (e.g. Cohesity), monitoring, and scripting (PowerShell, Bash)
n
- Proven troubleshooting across physical and virtual environments
n
- Solid grasp of security controls, patching, and vulnerability management
n
- ITSM and ITIL-aligned experience
n

n

Highly regarded

n

n
- Azure or hybrid cloud exposure
n
- Healthcare or other highly regulated, 24/7 environments
n
- Certifications: Microsoft (AZ-104, AZ-800/801), VMware (VCP-DCV), ITIL v4, Linux (RHCSA)
n

Location & working arrangements

Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane with hybrid working (minimum 3 days on-site).Participation in an on-call roster and some out-of-hours work is expected.
