SONDA Recruitment

Melbourne

You're probably already very good at this. You know your way around a hydraulic model, you've got opinions about mesh resolution, and you get a quiet satisfaction when the calibration finally cooperates.

This role is for the person who wants to go further., or, who is further. A well-established water team is growing, not backfilling. We're looking for someone at the Associate or Senior Associate level who's ready to deepen their craft in a team that takes the technical side seriously.

Six engineers who genuinely enjoy their work. Experienced enough to teach you things, busy enough that you'll own real problems quickly.

This is a technical, problem solving role (less PM, more detail).

Day to day

Flood and stormwater modelling across a varied project mix .. catchment-scale overland flow, floodplain management, climate change impact assessment, infrastructure projects, renewables projects..

Drainage is mostly looked after by a separate team.

You'll be building and reviewing 2D hydraulic models, interpreting outputs, and contributing to technical reports that influence project decisions.

This isn't a "maintain the model and report the numbers" role. You'll be expected to think about what the model is telling you, push back when something looks off, and lead your own projects.

ABOUT YOU

- Civil or environmental engineering degree (water flavoured preferred)
- CPEng helpful. EA Membership required.

- 6-20 years working with hydraulic or hydrological models .. TUFLOW, MIKE, HEC-RAS (TUFLOW a must)
- Comfort with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and some handle on spatial data
- Ability to write clearly .. your model is only as helpful as the report explaining it
- Python, scripting, or any automation instincts helpful.

SET UP

The team is in the office most of the time, not because anyone's being rigid about it, but because that's where the good conversations happen. One day working from home is the norm; two days is fine when life calls for it. If you want a fully remote setup, this probably isn't it.

WHY?

- Technical mentorship
- True dinks Project diversity (lots in the large category)
- A team that won't make you feel weird for caring about accuracy
- Scope to grow into technical leadership, not just seniority by tenure

The role will pay between$150k - $200k p/a plus Super - to match your experience.

Additional information

- Down to earth, wholesome group looking for fellow TUFLOW expert.
- Mainly office based position, with a day from home weekly.
- $150k - $200k p/a plus Super - to match your experience.

If you're the sort of person who still reads the Hydrology and Earth System Sciences journal occasionally, or who has a view on the best way to handle a floodway boundary condition, we'd like to hear from you.
