Position Summary The Security Operations Manager is responsible for the effective management and delivery of security operations across the organisation’s sites, people, assets and activities in Queensland.
The role provides operational leadership to security personnel and contractors, ensuring a safe, secure and compliant environment. The Security Operations Manager will oversee day-to-day security operations, incident response, security risk management, investigations, emergency preparedness, access control, CCTV and security technology, while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, emergency services and external security providers.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations
- Lead and manage day-to-day security operations across designated Queensland sites.
- Develop and maintain security procedures, post orders, operational standards and response protocols.
- Ensure appropriate security coverage, staffing levels and deployment of personnel.
- Monitor security performance and identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate security operations during high-risk activities, major events, emergencies and business disruptions.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach and develop security officers, supervisors and other security personnel.
- Manage workforce planning, rostering, performance and capability development.
- Promote a strong security culture focused on professionalism, customer service, safety and continuous improvement.
- Manage third-party security contractors and ensure services are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements.
Incident Management
- Lead the response to security incidents, emergencies, threats and critical events.
- Coordinate investigations into security incidents, breaches, theft, misconduct, property damage and other security-related matters.
- Ensure incidents are accurately documented, escalated and reviewed.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain effective relationships with Queensland Police, emergency services and other relevant authorities.
Risk and Compliance
- Conduct and oversee security risk assessments and vulnerability assessments.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and security improvement plans.
- Ensure security operations comply with applicable Queensland and Australian legislation, organisational policies and contractual requirements.
- Maintain appropriate records, reports and operational documentation.
- Support audits, compliance reviews and security assurance activities.
Security Technology and Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve security through technology and automation.
- Work with IT, facilities and other stakeholders to maintain the reliability and security of critical systems.
- Monitor system performance and coordinate maintenance and upgrades where required.
Emergency and Crisis Management
- Support the development, testing and review of emergency response, evacuation, lockdown and business continuity arrangements.
- Participate in crisis management and incident management teams when required.
- Coordinate security arrangements for emergencies, severe weather events and other operational disruptions.
Stakeholder Management
- Develop effective working relationships with executives, site managers, employees, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Provide clear and timely security advice to management.
- Represent the organisation professionally with regulators, law enforcement, emergency services and external security partners.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- MUST HAVE - Drivers licence, Security licence, management and security industry experience
- Demonstrated experience managing security operations within a complex organisation or multi-site environment.
- Proven leadership and people-management capability.
- Strong knowledge of security risk management, incident response and investigations.
- Experience managing security contractors and service providers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical,
decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and remain effective during high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities.
- Current Queensland security licence appropriate to the duties of the position, where required.
- Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence, where the role requires travel between sites.
Desirable
- Relevant qualification in security management, risk management, emergency management, criminology, policing, business or a related discipline.
- Experience in a large corporate, government, healthcare, education, resources or critical-infrastructure environment.
- Experience with security management systems, CCTV, access control and incident-management platforms.
- Experience developing security strategies, policies and operational procedures.
- Experience working with Queensland Police and other emergency services.
- Professional membership of a relevant security or risk-management body.

Working Conditions The position may require:
- Availability outside normal business hours to respond to significant security incidents.
- Participation in an on-call or after-hours escalation arrangement.
- Travel between Queensland sites.
- Attendance at incidents, emergencies and operational meetings.
- Occasional work outside standard business hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Role Objective The Security Operations Manager will provide visible, professional and risk-based security leadership, ensuring the organisation maintains a safe and secure environment while supporting business continuity, operational resilience and the wellbeing of employees, visitors and other stakeholders.
