About the Job

n

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Senior Gateway Engineer uses their in-depth knowledge of specific ICT platforms to provide expert advice on the management and maintenance of those platforms. They work closely with key third party suppliers to ensure a robust gateway infrastructure capability for the business, and liaise with architecture and shared services areas to ensure the security of day-to-day technical operations. Senior Gateway Engineers exercise a considerable degree of independence, with decision-making substantially dependent on high-level judgement and wider agency considerations, with work performed under the general guidance of senior staff.

Responsibilities

n

- Design/evaluate/implement infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demand
n
- Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities
n
- Prepare, review and maintain documentation which may include design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures
n
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policy and procedures and change initiatives
n
- Participate in change management process and communicate the end-to-end implications of configuration changes
n
- Provide detailed, specialist technical advice,



including strategic advice to the senior executive
n
- Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert, and aid and mentorship to less experienced colleagues
n
- Undertake research on emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency
n
- Engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
n
- Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information
n
- Encourage innovation, continuous improvement and manage and support change and influence and contribute to ICT strategy resolving conflicts as needed
n
- Manage the operation of backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions for IT systems
n
- Manage the regular maintenance of patches and support packages for all technical layers
n
- Manage the administration and operation of the Gateway network kit
n

Qualifications

n

n
- At least five (5) years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large scale data centre networking workplace.
n




- Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency in the design of services utilising F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems.
n
- Demonstrated experience in the design and deployment of network infrastructure including Cisco Data centre technologies like Cisco ACI, Cisco Routers, nexus switches, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
n
- Demonstrated experience with and/or detailed understanding of Palo Alto firewalls and IPS Solutions
n
- Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) Solutions.
n
- Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services.
n
- Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation.
n
- Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.
