Based in Turrella, Sydney, Thompsons Roller Shutters has been designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing industrial and commercial door products since 1927.
As we continue to grow, we are expanding our production team and preparing to relocate operations to Minto, Sydney, in mid to late 2027.
The Position
We are looking for a reliable, safety-conscious Production Welder to join our growing team. In this hands-on role, you will manufacture roller shutter drums and related components to specification, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
The successful applicant will be mechanically minded, confident using workshop tools & equipment, and is comfortable working in a busy factory environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manufacturing roller shutter drums and related parts/components to required specifications.
- Assessing raw materials before, during and after the manufacturing process for faults, defects and/or damage that may affect the finished product.
- Accurately measuring materials and components throughout the manufacturing process.
- Completing welding, cutting, drilling and finishing tasks to prepare products for effective installation on-site.
- Safely operating factory equipment, including overhead cranes, oxy-cutters, pedestal drills, power tools and hand tools.
- Working closely with the factory team to keep materials and components moving smoothly through production.
- Following WHS requirements, including hazard and incident reporting procedures.
- Assisting with other production tasks as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Confident MIG welding experience, ideally 3–5 years in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut and prepare materials to required specifications.
- Experience using workshop tools and equipment, such as oxy-cutters, pedestal drills, powered tools and hand tools.
- Ability to operate, or willingness to be trained to operate, overhead crane equipment in line with site procedures.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based production environment.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet production deadlines.
- Commitment to quality.

Skills & Experience
- First or second-class welding certificate, or equivalent practical MIG welding experience.
- Experience manufacturing metal components or working in a similar factory/production environment.
This is a factory-based role involving standing for extended periods, manual handling and physically active work. From time to time, overtime may be required to meet operational deadlines and will apply in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreement.
