Job Type: Casual / Subcontractor (ABN Required)
Hours: Starting at 5 hours per week (with excellent scope to increase)
Wage: From $39 per hour
Driver’s licence and car required.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an outgoing, compassionate, and highly engaging Male or Female Disability Support Worker (Sub Contractor) to partner with a creative 30-year-old woman in Bracken Ridge as she takes exciting new steps toward independent living.
This position begins at 5 hours, one day a week, with hours set to increase organically as you build rapport, trust, and comfort with the participant.
About the Participant
The participant is a creative woman in her 30s living at home with her supportive family. She is passionate about fashion design and has a deep love for animals (she proudly cares for her pet chickens and a duck!). Currently, her primary support comes from her brother, but she is ready to expand her personal and social horizons.
Her big-picture goals include building self-confidence, forming genuine friendships, and transitioning into independent living. She also dreams of studying fashion part-time and will need support navigating enrolment and attending classes.
Key Responsibilities
- Community & Social Access: Accompany the participant to social outings to help her build meaningful community connections and peer friendships.
- Educational Support: Assist with part-time TAFE/course enrolment and attend fashion design classes alongside her to support her learning.
- Skill Development:
Work closely on practical independent living skills to help her prepare for her eventual move out of home.
- Active Engagement: Bring high energy and a vibrant personality to actively draw her out of her shell.
Skill & Experience
What We Are Looking For
- Tertiary Background: You have experience navigating or supporting individuals within a tertiary education setting (TAFE, university, or registered training organisations) to help her successfully manage her studies.
- Compassionate yet Resilient: You possess a strong backbone, excellent professional boundaries, and the ability to advocate effectively for your participant’s autonomy and independence.
- Emotionally Intelligent: You are highly sensitive to complex family dynamics and can navigate home environments with respect and discretion.
- Outgoing & Proactive: You excel at confidence-building and know how to make social skill-building fun and rewarding.
- Shared Interests (Bonus): An interest in fashion, design, or animals is highly desirable!
Requirements
- Prior Tertiary Experience (Required)
- Active Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check (Blue Card / Yellow Card equivalent)
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificates
- Valid Driver’s Licence and a reliable, insured vehicle
- Legal right to work in Australia
Our Recruitment Process
To ensure the perfect match for both you and the participant, our recruitment process consists of a two-stage process:
- Stage 1: An initial formal interview.
- Stage 2: A casual meet-and-greet with the participant and her family to ensure a great connection and rapport.
