Role DescriptionThe Power Plant Manager will oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation facilities and related systems. The role focuses on operational planning, plant performance, maintenance coordination, safety management, resource optimization, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across power generation activities.
Key responsibilities include coordinating daily plant operations, monitoring generation performance, reviewing operating conditions, and ensuring that equipment and systems function according to established procedures and technical requirements. The role will support effective coordination between operations, engineering, maintenance, safety, environmental, and administrative teams.
The position will monitor plant performance indicators such as generation output, equipment availability, efficiency, fuel consumption, operating costs, and system reliability. Responsibilities may include reviewing operational data, identifying performance issues, investigating abnormal conditions, and implementing appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
The Power Plant Manager will coordinate maintenance planning and shutdown activities to minimize operational disruption and maintain equipment reliability. The role may oversee maintenance schedules, equipment inspections, spare-parts requirements, contractor activities, and the implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
Safety and environmental compliance are key aspects of the role. The position will support established health and safety procedures, environmental controls, emergency response plans, operational standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
The role will also promote a solid safety culture and ensure that operational activities are properly documented.
Additional responsibilities include preparing operational reports, reviewing budgets and resource requirements, managing plant documentation, supporting capital improvement projects, evaluating operational risks, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills. The ability to respond effectively to operational challenges, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and maintain high standards of safety and reliability is essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of power generation principles, plant operations, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with power plant systems such as turbines, generators, boilers, transformers, switchgear, cooling systems, fuel systems, control systems, or renewable generation technologies, depending on facility type.
- Understanding of plant performance monitoring, equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and energy management principles.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, industrial safety procedures, emergency response, and operational risk management.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance principles, emissions monitoring, waste management, and relevant operational standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, operating data, equipment specifications, maintenance records, and engineering documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate equipment issues and operational abnormalities.
- Ability to coordinate maintenance programs, shutdown activities, inspections, contractors, and technical service providers.
- Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance practices and asset-management principles.
- Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, PLC, CMMS, ERP, or other industrial monitoring and management systems is advantageous.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-coordination skills.
- Ability to prepare operational reports, performance analyses, maintenance plans, budgets, and management presentations.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing safety procedures, technical documentation, operational records, and performance data.
- Ability to manage multiple operational priorities while maintaining safety, reliability, quality, and efficiency.
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to operational incidents.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering, maintenance, operations, safety, environmental, finance, and management teams.
- Proactive approach to continuous improvement, energy efficiency, equipment reliability, cost control, and operational excellence.
