Hays is currently seeking an experienced Principal Project & Policy Officer for an immediate start with a government organisation delivering a significant funding and resourcing reform project. This role will suit a strong project manager with excellent stakeholder relationship skills, sound policy judgement and experience working across funding, costing, business cases, resource planning or implementation projects within government or a regulated environment. You will work closely with senior leaders, finance stakeholders, operational teams and central agency representatives to support the development of practical, evidence-based funding models and implementation advice.
Your recent role
This is a standalone Level 7 role supporting a high-priority program of work focused on funding, resourcing and cost recovery arrangements. The position requires someone who can confidently coordinate complex workstreams, manage relationships across several stakeholder groups and translate operational information into clear advice for senior decision-makers. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate project work relating to funding, resourcing and cost recovery models
- Work with operational teams to gather information, clarify requirements and document current-state processes
- Support the development of practical funding models, costing approaches and implementation options
- Prepare high-quality briefs, submissions, advice and decision papers for senior stakeholders
- Translate complex operational, financial and policy information into clear recommendations
- Coordinate governance, project tracking, risks, assumptions, dependencies and key decisions
- Liaise with finance teams, central agencies, executive stakeholders and internal subject matter experts
- Support consultation,
working groups and reform deliverables within agreed timeframes
- Provide project management support across multiple related workstreams
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Strong project management experience within government, public sector reform, funding, finance, policy or implementation environments
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with senior leaders and central agency stakeholders
- Experience supporting funding models, business cases, cost recovery, resource planning or financial reform activities
- Strong policy judgement, with the ability to prepare clear briefs, submissions and recommendations
- Ability to analyse operational, financial and policy information and turn it into practical options
- Confidence working independently in a standalone role while engaging with a broader project team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a time-sensitive setting
- Experience working with Treasury, finance teams or central government stakeholders will be highly regarded
- Relevant qualifications in public policy, governance, business, project management, finance or a related discipline will be viewed favourably
