The Opportunity An established and growing supplier of mining, safety and industrial products is seeking a commercially sharp Procurement Manager to take ownership of its purchasing, inventory and logistics functions. Managing approximately $8 million in inventory and a significant freight spend, this is an opportunity to make an immediate and measurable commercial impact. You will move the business beyond consumption-based ordering by introducing disciplined forecasting, smarter stock controls and more effective supplier negotiations.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can balance product availability with working-capital efficiency and deliver genuine savings across purchasing, inventory and freight.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a commercially focused procurement and inventory strategy
- Negotiate supplier pricing, rebates, trading terms and freight arrangements
- Build strong relationships with local and international vendors
- Review purchasing patterns and replace reactive ordering with structured forecasting
- Establish appropriate minimum and maximum stock levels, reorder points and safety-stock settings
- Improve inventory turnover while maintaining reliable product availability
- Identify and reduce excess, obsolete and slow-moving stock
- Manage inbound logistics, freight providers and associated costs
- Monitor supplier performance, lead times, pricing and service levels
- Work closely with sales, operations and warehouse teams to anticipate demand
- Develop meaningful reporting, controls and KPIs across procurement, inventory and logistics
- Identify and deliver sustainable cost-saving initiatives
About You You will be a commercially minded procurement qualified who understands that purchasing is about much more than placing orders. To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing or supply-chain management
- Strong inventory-management and demand-planning capability
- A proven record of negotiating improved supplier pricing and commercial terms
- Experience managing freight, logistics providers or inbound supply chains
- Confidence working with substantial inventory holdings and broad product ranges
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn data into practical decisions
- Experience developing procurement, inventory and supplier-performance KPIs
- A proactive, accountable and continuous-improvement mindset
- Clear communication and stakeholder-management skills
Experience within mining supplies, industrial products, safety equipment, distribution, wholesale or a related environment will be highly regarded.
