About the Position

We are looking for a talented Production Engineer who will be responsible for the introduction and improvement of processes, systems and methods in production to ensure employee safety, maximize efficiency, reduce cost, meet statutory regulations, technical requirements and SMC quality standards. The role coordinates and directs product engineering design changes, supports production and customer service and provides technical support to both internal and external customers.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

- Work with the Design Engineering team to review and optimise product designs to increase their ease of manufacture, error-proof designs, identify and eliminate errors in design or technical documentation.
- Assist in the development of technical documentation including assembly and inspection instructions and records and assist in complex product testing and fault finding as required.
- Work with Production Management to optimising the manufacturing processes to improve production efficiency, reduce costs and enhance product quality.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, current production technologies, improvements to plant layout and introduction of new production processes.
- Monitoring production processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards in all production activities.
- Providing technical support to the Production team by resolving technical issues during the production process.
- Assist the Engineering team in evaluation of product returned for repair or service.
- Analyse and evaluate existing manufacturing processes, identifying opportunities for optimisation.
- Design, implement and oversee improvements to the production workflows.
- Conduct root cause analysis for production-related problems and implement preventative measures.
- Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
- Manage and take quality control measures to ensure that product specifications are met.
- Develop and maintain documentation for production processes,



product inspection and testing, work instructions, standard operating procedures and quality standards.
- Identify hazards, assess and appropriately mitigate manufacturing process control risks.
- Participate in the company’s machinery preventative maintenance program.
- Contribute to the design, build, registration and maintenance of all manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
- Prepare capital equipment proposals as necessary to drive improvement in manufacturing capability.
- Conduct Product Failure investigation and prepare report.
- Conduct IRS (Inspection, Repair, Service) investigation and prepare quotation.
- Prepare test procedure, ITP etc for Special Products to facilitate manufacturing.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to prepare technical documentation for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with Production Team to provide training to the operators.

Quality Assurance

- Review technical documentation for accuracy and ensure design and documentation errors are not passed from Engineering to production. Ensure that all drawings and technical documentation issued for production are of the latest revision level.
- Verify quality compliance with quality standards throughout the manufacturing process by:
- Inspecting manufactured components for adherence to technical specifications sourced from individual design or supplied by SMC Japan.
- Testing/Inspection of designed components or assemblies.
- Investigate root cause of any product failure and with Production Management develop and implement process changes to prevent recurrence.
- Follow applicable Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures when developing, processing, communicating, and storaging of technical reports.




- Maintain current knowledge of the company systems including location and content of technical documentation, work instructions and standards relevant to work requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience & Background

- Minimum 3 years’ relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment (essential).
- Ability to read and understand detail drawings, inspection test plans and manufacturing specifications.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability practices in manufacturing in Australia.

Skills & Attributes

- Strong computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

- Tertiary qualification in Engineering is essential: Bachelor of Mechanical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering (preferred) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with relevant industry experience (acceptable).
- Relevant certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing (preferred).
