Ideally located on the Gold Coast, Somerset College is seeking an experienced pastoral leader available to commence by Term 1, 2026. You will be a skilled Mathematics, Science or English Teacher adept at teaching up to Year 12. Alternate teaching areas may be considered for the right applicant. As a passionate educator, you will empower students, foster growth and shape a positive College culture through education, mentorship, and visionary leadership.

The Head of Year oversees the physical, emotional, and academic wellbeing of all students in the cohort and fosters strong connections among teachers, students and parents.

Organise rosters and duties as required in the respective Year Level area
n
Effectively communicate with teachers, parents and students
n
Plan and manage the Year Level programme, including wellbeing and QTAC meetings
n
Foster a collaborative culture within the Year Level which is focussed on improvement at both the College and cohort level
n
Coordinate and plan parent and student information evenings as required
n
Maintain a visible and active presence within Year Level classes throughout the school day
n
Work collaboratively to maintain the College's Behaviour Management Policies
n

Strong pastoral experience supporting student wellbeing, behaviour and development
n
Strong disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge in Mathematics, Science or English
n
Experience in International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programmes well regarded
n
Ability to effectively work and build meaningful relationships with students, colleagues and the community
n
Strong work ethics, reliability, interpersonal and discretionary skills, coupled with a commitment to quality service delivery
n
Teacher registration or Working with Children blue card and First Aid certification
n
Physically fit and comfortable with manual tasks such as bending and lifting
n
