Position Purpose
n
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will develop students' knowledge of world history; foster an understanding and appreciation of world cultures, languages, racial, ethnic and religious groups, and political systems.
n
Essential Functions
n
n
- Develops and administers World History curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
n
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
n
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating lesson plans into learning experiences to develop unit organization around historical problems.
n
- Teaches knowledge of world history from early to modern historic periods, incorporating political science, economics, sociology, geography, and anthropology within a historical context.
n
- Promotes the formation of attitudes and skills that enable students to analyze intelligently the world around them, becoming constructive members of a free society predicated on the rule of law.
n
- Fosters an understanding of the continuity and patterns of human behavior through the ages, and of humanity's major problems and approaches to their solutions.
n
- Demonstrates how the past provides a comparative basis for evaluating current issues and predicting courses of action for the future.
n
- Develops students' research skills through a variety of reading and writing assignments, stimulating self‐reliance in problem‐solving through effective utilization of library materials.
n
- Promotes critical analysis of the effect media has on the flow of information and shaping of public discourse,
encouraging students to seek alternative sources of information concerning key world issues.
n
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
n
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and stay current through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
n
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record‐keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
n
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
n
- Ensures student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
n
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participants in faculty meetings and committees.
n
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
n
n

- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
n

Equipment

- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

- Travels to school district buildings and qualified meetings as required.
n
n
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
n

- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
n
- Knowledge of world history sub‐topics including geography, sociology, economics, political science, systems of government, anthropology, responsible citizenship, and humanities.
n
- Knowledge of humanity's major problems and approaches to their solutions in the past.
n
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
n
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
n
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
n
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
n
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
n
- Ability to engage in self‐evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
n
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile
n
n
- Certification/License: State Certification as a History Teacher; Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
n
- Education: Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment; Master's Degree preferred.
n
- Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
n
