Job Description
You'll take an existing, functional prototype and turn it into a clear, intuitive, production-ready UX working closely with engineers who value good design, move quickly, and want your input early.
n
If you enjoy untangling complex workflows, reducing cognitive load for users, and designing for real operational environments (not just marketing websites), this project will keep you engaged.
n
What you'll be working on
n
The business is building a web-based "mailroom" application used by organisations such as councils, healthcare providers and enterprise teams to prepare, review and submit high-volume outbound communications across postal and digital channels.
n
You'll own UX across key workflows including:
n
n
- Uploading documents and creating "packs" (mailing jobs)
n
- Reviewing extracted data, letters and addresses
n
- Managing dense configuration, presets and permissions
n
- Designing extraction, zone selection and validation experiences
n
- Supporting long-running processes with clear progress states
n
- Balancing power-user capability with approachability for everyday users
n
n
The focus is on making something complex feel logical, calm and usable without oversimplifying what the product needs to do.
n
What you'll do
n
n
- Lead UX from discovery through to delivery for a production SaaS web app
n
- Define information architecture, navigation and terminology
n
- Map end-to-end user journeys and task flows
n
- Design wireframes and high‐fidelity UI for complex states (draft, extracting, error, submitted)
n
- Work closely with developers to ensure designs are realistic, scalable and build‐ready
n
- Create explicit design specs covering states, validation, empty states and accessibility
n
- Help guide scope, MVP decisions and phased delivery
n
n
What you'll need
n
n
- Proven experience designing B2B or SaaS products (not just marketing sites)
n
- Strong UX thinking across workflows, systems and edge cases
n
- Confidence working with engineers in a highly collaborative, consultative way
n
- Ability to simplify dense configuration and operational interfaces
n
- Experience taking products from prototype to production
n
- Clear communication skills — this role succeeds on dialogue, not assumptions
n
n
Nice to have (but not essential)
n
n
- Familiarity with React‐based design constraints or component libraries
n
- Experience designing for long‐running or asynchronous system states
n
- Accessibility‐first thinking (WCAG awareness)
n
- Initial 3‐6 month contract, with potential to extend
n
- Darling Harbour office location with hybrid working available
n
- Mid‐Senior UX Designer level (not suited to junior profiles)
n
n
Why this will stand out on your portfolio
n
n
- Real users, real complexity, real constraints
n
- A product used at scale across enterprise environments
n
- Genuine influence over how the system works — not just how it looks
n
- A collaborative team that wants design input, not just execution
n
