Casual position (approximately 12-months of team leave cover)

Grade 1: BU1 > BU8 depending on experience
n
Up to $29.96 to $38.64 per hour (+25% applicable casual loading)

About the role
n
The Molecular Pathology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team to help support the molecular diagnostic service. This ongoing position will be within our pre-analytical section and involves specimen registration, processing and DNA/RNA extraction for molecular testing. The role includes a Saturday workday, with part-time job-share arrangements considered. The full-time position presents an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience in this rapidly growing field.

Remuneration as per Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2026. Grade 1, BU1 - BU8: $29 - $38 per hour dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

About you
n
You will be a highly motivated and self-driven and possess a relevant diploma/degree in science with genetics or molecular biology experience preferred. Previous experience working in an accredited Pathology laboratory with specimen registration and/or DNA/RNA extraction would be an advantage.

You'll bring with you:

Year 11 chemistry and/or biology or equivalent experience
n
Excellent aseptic / sterile technique
n
Ability to diligently prevent cross-contamination
n
Ability to safely use steam sterilisers (autoclaves)
n
Ability to safely lift 8-12 kg to transfer to trolleys / work areas
n
Ability to walk 8,000 - 15,000 steps per day
n
Ability to safely push and manoeuvre loaded trolleys
n
Ability to prepare / handwash multiple bottles prior to loading in lab washer
n

Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital will transition to a single pathology service. This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.

This role will transition to the new pathology service which will be led by Melbourne Health.
