About the Team
n
The External Budgets & Revenue Section, part of the Finance & Property Branch in the Corporate Division, leads the Commission's strategic budget activities. It works with internal and external stakeholders to develop the Commission's regulatory strategy and financial sustainability.

About the Role
n
As an Assistant Director within the External Budget and Revenue Team, you will lead, coordinate, and support a complex portfolio of policy development and budgeting processes. Your responsibilities include shaping the external budget, overseeing funding and charging models, and translating decisions into actionable outcomes.
n
Position Duties
n
n
- Contribute to policy development, research, and resource bidding for new proposals, including cost and resource modelling.
n
- Lead research and draft high‐level communications, briefing materials, and address complex legal, policy, and procedural issues.
n
- Coordinate the implementation of strategic projects (Funding and Resource Models, Budget and Cost Recovery) and manage stakeholder relationships.
n
- Analyse and interpret data to determine operational implications for the Commission.
n
- Present information and data to internal and external stakeholders to facilitate decision making.
n
- Oversee contracts and external suppliers supporting budget and cost recovery projects.
n
- Support the Commission's business vision and contribute to strategic direction and continuous improvement.
n
- Provide leadership and management to APS6 staff, ensuring effective performance and development.
n
- Work in a virtual setting with a distributed team across Australia.
n
- Represent the Commission with credibility and professionalism.
n
- Adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
n

Position Eligibility Requirements (Selection Criteria)
n
n
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills,
with the ability to synthesize complex information into presentations or briefs.
n
- Sound research, problem‐solving, and analytical skills, including data modelling and interpretation.
n
- High organisational and time‐management skills, able to plan and deliver priorities independently while maintaining accuracy.
n
- Influential communication and negotiation skills to develop productive relationships with stakeholders.
n
- Independent responsibility for managing own performance and that of the team to achieve results.
n
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast‐paced environment with competing priorities.
n
- Support staff dealing with high workloads and stakeholder interactions in a changing environment.
n
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
n
- Willingness to obtain and maintain a minimum Baseline Security Clearance.
n
n
Position Notes
n
n
- Salary offered will be between $122,620 – $139,850 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation.
n
- Only candidates who hold Australian citizenship can apply. Appointment is conditional on completing a national police check.
n
- Non‐ongoing opportunity offered for an irregular/intermittent term, up to 12 months with the option to extend to 24 months.
n
- A merit pool may be established for this or future vacancies.
n
