Overview

The Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking expressions of interest for new members.
n
To support ECU's research activities, the HREC reviews research projects to ensure they meet ethical requirements as outlined by the National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research, 2023 (NS).
n
Responsibilities
n
n
- Attend HREC meetings (first Friday of every month, ~3 hours, starting at 1.00 pm) at the Mt Lawley or Joondalup campus, with remote participation optional.
n
- Review applications and associated documents between meetings.
n
- Participate in an induction for current members and contribute to a process that allows differing views to be explored and resolved.
n
n
Qualifications and Attributes
n
n
- Ability to communicate well, listen to and appreciate diverse views, and formulate a considered opinion.
n
- Interest in ethics; lack of formal ethics training should not exclude candidates.
n
- Sufficient time to attend meetings and read proposals and related documents ahead of meetings.
n
- Knowledge or experience in one of the following categories is desirable:
n
- Knowledge of professional care, counselling, or treatment (e.g.,
nursing or allied health);
n
- Pastoral/community leadership roles (e.g., Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander elder, chaplain, or faith leader);
n
- Qualified lawyer (practising or non-practising);
n
- Broader community or consumer perspective.

Remuneration and Working Arrangements
n
n
- Renumeration of $300 per meeting.
n
- Meetings held at ECU campuses with remote participation available.
n
- Time commitment includes attendance and reviewing applications between meetings.
n
- Comprehensive induction provided for new members.
n
n
