Role DescriptionThe Reporter will research, gather, verify, and present information for news stories, articles, interviews, digital publications, and other media content. The role focuses on identifying relevant topics, developing accurate stories, conducting research, and communicating information clearly to audiences across different platforms.
Key responsibilities include monitoring current events, industry developments, public information, social media, official announcements, and other relevant sources to identify potential story ideas. The role will conduct background research, verify facts, identify reliable sources, and gather information necessary to develop well-structured and informative content.
The Reporter will conduct interviews with relevant individuals, organizations, experts, and other sources to obtain firsthand information and different perspectives. Responsibilities may include preparing interview questions, arranging interviews, taking notes, recording key information, and incorporating verified quotes and insights into published content.
The position will write, edit, and refine news reports, articles, features, breaking news updates, online stories, and other editorial materials while following established editorial standards. The role will ensure that content is accurate, balanced, clear, relevant, and appropriate for the intended audience and publication platform.
Additional responsibilities include researching supporting materials, checking facts and sources, monitoring developing stories, updating published content when new information becomes available,
and collaborating with editors, photographers, videographers, social media teams, and other media professionals.
The Reporter may also contribute to digital content by preparing headlines, summaries, social media updates, newsletters, multimedia stories, and online features. The role will monitor audience engagement and emerging topics to identify opportunities for relevant and timely coverage.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong curiosity, research ability, writing skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail. The ability to work under deadlines, evaluate information objectively, communicate with sources professionally, and maintain accuracy throughout the reporting process is essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communications, English, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of journalism principles, news reporting, editorial standards, and responsible information gathering.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
- Ability to identify relevant story angles and develop clear, engaging, and informative content.
- Robust fact-checking and source-verification skills with attention to accuracy and reliability.
- Ability to conduct interviews, prepare questions, communicate professionally with sources, and obtain relevant information.
- Strong understanding of news structures, headlines, leads, storytelling techniques, and editorial content.
- Familiarity with digital journalism, online publishing platforms, social media, newsletters, and multimedia content.
- Ability to research information using official sources, databases, public records, online publications, and other reliable resources.
- Strong critical-thinking skills with the ability to distinguish verified information from unreliable or misleading claims.
- Ability to write for different audiences, subjects, formats, and publication channels.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple stories, research tasks, and editorial deadlines.
- High attention to detail when reviewing names, dates, figures, quotations, sources, and factual information.
- Familiarity with content management systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar digital tools.
