At Shine, we champion better justice for our clients. As our full‐time, permanent Deputy National Legal Costing Manager, you will be based in either our Brisbane or Melbourne CBD office. You will lead a team of eight, coaching them to success and driving strong outcomes while working closely with the national legal costing manager and other senior leaders.

Responsibilities
n

- Assist the national legal costing manager in managing team performance by allocating workloads effectively.
n
- Act as an escalation point for complex legal costing issues, proactively resolving them with internal and external stakeholders.
n
- Provide recommendations on optimal costing methodologies (court scale and loading, hourly rates, fixed fee and hybrid models) across jurisdictions to maximise case recoverability.
n
- Train legal teams on time‐recording practices, enhancing cost recovery efficiency.
n
- Coach legal, settlement and third‐party recovery teams on cost management, including cost agreements, recovery strategies, and settlement negotiations.
n
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost assessments for compulsory conferences, mediations and post‐resolution proceedings to optimise recoverability.
n
- Develop strategies to reduce client complaints regarding costs, thereby improving client service.
n
- Monitor compliance with relevant legislative and jurisdictional costing requirements.

Qualifications
n

- Significant experience as a legal costing solicitor with a thorough understanding of optimal costing methodologies.
n
- Desire and aptitude to lead a high‐performing team.
n
- Commercial acumen and the ability to drive enhancements to cost recovery efficiency.
n
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including managing external cost assessors.
n
- Strong statistical and numerical skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel.
n
- Strong attention to detail and problem‐solving skills.
n
- A commitment to connecting with others and delivering exceptional results for clients.

- The ability to deliver outcomes across competing priorities.
