Clearance: Have the ability to hold a Baseline / Must be an Australian Citizen
Jigsaw Notions is seeking an experienced Scientific Officer to support the management, analysis and reporting of national antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance data in Canberra.
About the role The Scientific Officer is central to the effective management of data within the Australian Passive Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance (APAS) and the National Alert System for Critical Antimicrobial Resistances (CARAlert) programs, delivered under the Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Australia (AURA) surveillance program.
Beyond data management, the role spans data analysis, reporting and interpretation, and applying knowledge of laboratory practice to help contributing laboratories achieve consistent, standardised data collection and reporting. You will also provide technical scientific advice on other AMR-related matters as required.
This is a technical role: microbiological and laboratory knowledge or experience is essential to perform its functions.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the integrity of surveillance data across the APAS and CARAlert programs under AURA.
- Analyse,
interpret and report on AMR surveillance data to support program outcomes.
- Support contributing laboratories to achieve consistent, standardised data collection and reporting.
- Apply laboratory-practice knowledge to quality-assure and improve data consistency.
- Provide technical scientific advice on AMR-related matters as required.
- Engage with stakeholders and contribute to program reporting and briefings.
About you
- Demonstrated microbiological and laboratory knowledge or experience (essential).
- Solid data management, analysis and interpretation skills.
- Experience producing clear scientific reports and communicating technical findings.
- Understanding of standardised laboratory data collection and reporting practices.
- Familiarity with AMR surveillance or public-health microbiology is highly regarded.
