About the role

Atlantis Beach Baptist College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary Teacher to deliver engaging programs in Food Technology and Art. The College employs Christian teachers who actively live out their faith and are willing to serve God by serving the community and sharing the good news. Teachers at ABBC work as part of a collaborative team, responsible for providing high-quality educational programs that contribute to students’ academic, creative, practical and personal development. The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications, training or demonstrated teaching experience in Food Technology, Home Economics, Hospitality, Visual Arts or a related discipline.

They will be able to provide safe, practical and engaging learning experiences in both kitchen and art studio environments. ABBC teachers are expected to maintain high standards of professional performance, personal presentation and self-discipline, and to comply with all College policies and procedures. The successful applicant will receive mentoring and support from experienced senior staff.

Job tasks and responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging, student-centred learning experiences in Secondary Food Technology and Art.
- Prepare and work with comprehensive semester planners in accordance with curriculum requirements and departmental policies.
- Develop students’ practical skills, creativity, problem-solving abilities and understanding of relevant design processes.
- Teach safe food preparation, nutrition, hygiene, kitchen procedures and the appropriate use of tools and equipment.
- Provide opportunities for students to explore a range of artistic techniques, media, materials and creative processes.
- Maintain safe, organised and well-resourced kitchen, food preparation and art studio environments.
- Follow College policies and procedures relating to curriculum, student management, assessment, monitoring and reporting.




- Ensure that classroom and practical learning environments are safe, conducive to learning and promote acceptable behaviour.
- Assess student learning and provide constructive, timely feedback.
- Communicate student progress to parents through work samples, assessments, portfolios, interviews and formal semester reports.
- Participate in the pastoral care and support of students in conjunction with other appropriate staff and professionals.
- Use Information and Communication Technologies to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences.
- Participate in extracurricular activities, yard duties, sporting duties, camps, exhibitions, competitions and other College activities as required.
- Assist with the management, ordering and safe storage of food, art materials, equipment and supplies.
- Comply with relevant food safety, workplace health and safety, allergy management and risk-management requirements.

Selection criteria

- Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- A recognised tertiary teaching qualification.
- Relevant qualifications, training or teaching experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Food Technology, Home Economics, Hospitality, Nutrition or a related discipline; and/or
- Visual Arts, Art Education, Design or a related discipline.

- Demonstrated capacity to teach both Food Technology and Art at the secondary-school level, or a willingness and ability to teach across both learning areas.
- Knowledge of safe food-handling,



hygiene, allergy awareness and kitchen safety practices.
- Knowledge of secure art studio practices, including the appropriate handling, storage and use of tools, equipment and materials.
- A sincere commitment to Jesus Christ and the philosophy of Christian education.
- Active participation in a church or Christian community, with the capacity to exemplify Christian beliefs, behaviours and practices.
- Agreement with the College’s Basis of Faith.
- Ability to integrate technology into curriculum planning and teaching practice.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues.
- Ability to manage pastoral matters involving students, staff and parents through effective dialogue and appropriate processes.
- Well-developed written reporting and oral communication skills.
- Current knowledge of contemporary teaching practices, curriculum requirements and educational theory.
- Commitment to providing inclusive, differentiated and engaging learning experiences.
- Adherence to all College policies, including the Child Safety Policy, Child Safety Code of Conduct and Staff Code of Conduct.
