Senior AI / Agent Engineer — Contract

Tenderfy is an AI-powered tender management platform built for construction, infrastructure and professional services teams. We have a mature SaaS product, established tender workflows and AI functionality in production.

Now we're taking the next step.

We're looking for a Senior AI / Agent Engineer to work alongside our existing development team and help us move from separate AI experiences to one intelligent agent that understands context across our platform and takes real actions alongside the user.

This is not a chatbot project, and we're not building another AI wrapper. The product and workflows already exist. We're giving our agent controlled access to those workflows so it can progressively perform real work inside the platform — and the first release goes to real customers in a feature-flagged beta within the engagement window

. You'll be working directly with our founder and our senior full-stack developer.

The initial mission

Within approximately 10–15 working days, help us establish and ship the first version of our agent architecture. The initial release should demonstrate that the agent can:

- Understand the current tender and its context
- Maintain state across the user journey
- Read and reason over tender documents
- Use tools/function calling to interact with our application
- Search and retrieve relevant platform content
- Perform controlled actions inside the product, with appropriate human approvals
- Stream responses, and run long document work as background jobs with progressive results — no user ever waits on a spinner

From there, we'll progressively expand what the agent can do

How we work

This is a pairing engagement

. You'll build alongside our senior full-stack developer — he owns the platform side (services, permissions, tenancy, UI); you bring the agent patterns. Success means he can maintain and extend the agent confidently after you leave.





That means vanilla provider-SDK patterns and boring, readable code — no custom framework only you understand. Everything you produce lands in our repo.

Deliverables

- Working agent release in production behind a feature flag, live with beta customers
- Agent playbook, prompts and an initial eval set, versioned in our repo
- A short "how this works" doc
- Our developer able to extend the agent without you

What we're looking for

Solid production experience with

- LLM agents / agentic AI
- Tool and function calling
- Multi-step agent workflows
- Agent state and context management
- OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude or similar APIs
- Streaming responses and async/background AI job patterns
- Node.js / TypeScript
- Production SaaS architecture and API integrations
- AWS
- Security, permissions and controlled agent actions
- Tracing, evaluation, latency and AI cost management

Experience with MCP, RAG/retrieval, large-document AI workflows, Angular and Microsoft Word/Office.js would be highly regarded.

Most importantly

We want someone who has actually shipped this.

- How it uses tools/function calling
- How you manage state and context
- Which models/frameworks you used
- How you handled failures, permissions and human approvals
- How you would diagnose an AI document-review feature that takes minutes to respond

We want someone who can get into the product quickly, establish the right foundations and ship — not spend weeks designing the perfect architecture. Our interview process reflects that: a conversation, then a paid working session walking through your agent's architecture and one of our real problems. No take-home.
