Primary objective

Provide high-quality, strategic advice to internal and external senior stakeholders on major government priorities, projects and reforms, undertake analysis of a range of complex issues affecting the Territory including from economic, commercial,

and regulatory reform perspectives, prepare complex reports and lead the implementation of policy.

Context statement

As a Senior Analyst in the Economic Policy team, you will help to lead the development of evidence-based advice on economic, commercial and regulatory reform matters. You will work with the team, other Treasury divisions and other government agencies to research and analyse major government priorities, projects and reforms and develop high quality advice to inform policy solutions. Critical thinking, the ability to absorb information quickly and provide succinct and accurate advice, and communicate with influence are key to success in this role.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Undertake research,



analysis and evaluation of policies and issues affecting the Territory and formulate quality strategic

advice from economic, regulatory and commercial perspectives.
- Develop relevant policy, economic publications, briefings and research papers.
- Prepare a range of high-level documentation including Ministerial and government briefings, policy advice, reports and discussion papers.

1. Foster professional and effective working relationships across government including representing and promoting the

interests of Treasury and the Territory on interdepartmental forums and intergovernmental committees on economic, commercial, corporate governance and regulatory issues.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Well-developed knowledge of contemporary economic and/or commercial policy frameworks and processes.
2. Demonstrated ability to apply research and analytical skills to provide sound advice on regulatory, economic, or

commercial policies, strategies, proposals, and issues.
- Ability to develop and implement economic and/or commercial strategies and policy, think strategically, and develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Highly-developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate technical work to a general audience.

1. Well-developed interpersonal skills, ability to work as part of a high-performing team, manage competing deadlines and

contribute to the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain good professional relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives.
- An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, finance, accounting, law or a related discipline.
2. An understanding of policy development and the processes of Government.
