Job Description
Location and Hospital
n
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital in Tasmania with approximately 500 beds and is the state‐wide referral centre for numerous tertiary services. It is an accredited Level 3 teaching hospital and offers services in all major medical and surgical specialties.

Department Overview
n
The Department of General and Acute Care Medicine is the largest inpatient medical unit, hosting 60‐90 inpatients and admitting 15‐20 per day across five Acute Medical teams, including a Rapid Assessment Medical Unit (RAMU) and a unit based in the Emergency Medicine department.
n
Duties
n
The Registrar is responsible for the day‐to‐day management of inpatients and outpatients within the hospital and provides after‐hours emergency cover at the hospital.
n
Essential Requirements
n
n
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
n
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
n
- Membership of a physician training program is not essential, but registration to practice in either Australia or NewZealand is essential
n
- Accreditation for BPT terms can be arranged through the local Directors of Physician Education
n
- Currency with ALS/ACLS (a refresher course every 3 years)
n

Salary
n
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum, prorata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging. Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement2025.

Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, prorata), commencing from 3August2026 until 1February2027.

Additional Information

Salary includes 10 hours protected training time per fortnight, prorata, and Annual Leave on a pro‐rata basis, along with other concessions in line with the Tasmanian Medical Award.
