Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or Clinical Psychology Registrar

Build a career you can sustain in an area of psychology that matters to you

We’re looking for a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or Clinical Psychology Registrar to join our growing team in East Maitland.

At The Hummingbird Centre, we believe clinicians do their best work when they feel supported, continue learning and have room to develop their own professional interests. We’ve worked hard to create a practice where psychologists can build meaningful careers that they genuinely enjoy.

You’ll work with clients across the lifespan while developing a caseload that reflects your interests. You may be drawn to trauma, neurodiversity, perinatal mental health, psychological assessment or another area entirely. You don’t need to arrive with your whole career mapped out. We’ll help you work out where you want to grow and support you to get there.

The position is available part-time or full-time, with a sustainable caseload of approximately six sessions, or equivalent report‑writing hours, per day.

What the role involves

- Providing psychological therapy and assessment across the lifespan

- Developing a caseload aligned with your experience and areas of interest

- Working collaboratively with clients, referrers and our multidisciplinary team

- Participating in supervision, professional development and team learning

- Maintaining thoughtful clinical documentation and communication

- Contributing to consistent, high-quality client care

- If it interests you, progressing into supervision, mentoring, training or leadership over time

The support around you

Private practice can be rewarding. It can also involve quite a lot of administration wearing a trench coat and pretending to be clinical work.

Our experienced administration team manages bookings, referrals, billing, reminders and much of the day‑to‑day client communication.

We also use AI‑supported systems to reduce repetitive administration and make documentation more manageable.

You’ll have access to:

- A significant career development budget

- Hundreds of hours of training through the Hummingbird Professional Development Network

- Supervision and mentoring from respected local, national and international clinicians

- In‑house training and opportunities to learn alongside colleagues

- Support to develop specialist interests

- Clear systems and an experienced administration team

- Opportunities to supervise, mentor, train or move into leadership as your career develops

We take professional development seriously. We believe it is an ongoing part of helping clinicians become more capable, confident and connected to their work.

About you

You’ll need:

- Current AHPRA registration, or eligibility for registration following completion of your program

- Eligibility for Medicare and SIRA registration

- Professional indemnity insurance

- A current National Police Check and Working with Children Check

More importantly, we’re looking for someone who:

- Brings warmth, curiosity and sound judgement to their work

- Values collaboration and enjoys being part of a team

- Is open to feedback and committed to continuing to learn

- Communicates thoughtfully with clients, referrers and colleagues

- Takes their clinical responsibilities seriously without taking themselves too seriously

- Wants to contribute to a supportive workplace and grow with the practice

You don’t need to know everything. None of us do.

We are looking for someone who cares about doing good work, asks thoughtful questions and wants to keep developing.

What we offer

- Part‑time or full‑time employment

- A sustainable caseload of approximately six sessions or equivalent report‑writing hours per day

- A significant professional development budget

- Hundreds of hours of professional training at no cost

- Regular supervision and mentoring

- Experienced administrative support

- AI‑supported systems designed to reduce administration

- Opportunities to develop specialist clinical interests

- Pathways into supervision, mentoring, training and leadership

- Relocation assistance for the right candidate

- A collaborative multidisciplinary team

- A workplace that values clinician wellbeing, sustainable practice and having enough energy left to enjoy your actual life
